Hatteberg at the Bat

So the new guys have their numbers:

  • Rick White, 00
  • Bench coach Bucky Dent, 7
  • Frank Menechino, 16
  • Scott Hatteberg, 21
  • Quinton McCracken, 30
  • Grant Balfour, 36
  • Michael Gosling, 48
  • Dave Williams, 52
  • Mike Burns, 53
  • Justin Germano, 57
  • Homer Bailey, 74
  • Tuffy Rhodes, 83

I really didn't think they'd hand out #21 to anyone this season. But they gave it to Hatteberg, the new cute-as-a-button first baseman who's lacking that traditional first baseman power. Maybe they just got confused.

As usual, many thanks to Marc Lancaster's spring training blog for the heads-up.

I had a farfetched dream that Casey would return to Cincy next year when his contract is up. Sigh…

He still could, I suppose. Hatteberg is only on a 1-year deal so he could potentially even get his number back.

Honestly, though, I hope the Pirates want to keep him. I’d hate to make him have to sort out his conflicting loyalties again so soon.

yeah, it’s just tough to have him on a team i really don’t care about. if he had moved to the cubs or the nationals (i live in dc), it might be easier. i know it’s his hometown team and all, but…

maybe all of those games against the pirates will be worth something this year.
