Chris Hammond

Again, everyone's favorite Reds' stathead blogger has profiled a player on his Better Know a Red feature. This time he tackles Mr. Chris Hammond, and so do I in the Human League profiles.

Check out Hammond's Human League profile for a nice, high-level introduction, then head over the JinAZ's BKAR feature for the nitty gritty.

I remember my first encounter with Chris. I had won the celebrity bat girl tournament (this was ’92, yes, I was 16 years old but still elligible) and was on the field for batting practice. I had the Reds team photo and wanted to get as many autographs on it as possible. It was one of those where they were pictured individually rather than a team, so when Hammond passed, I presented him the photo for his signature. Only he wasn’t on it. He looked rather embarrassed, but I insisted he sign at the bottom anyway. He looked grateful for it, too.

Aw, that’s a nice story. Though I find myself wondering what it takes to be a celebrity bat girl.

you win it – fill out a form and they draw it. they have several of them a year. they call it honorary bat boy/girl depending on the sponsor.

Well, I think step one would be to become a celebrity.
