Griffey on the DL

Just heard on FSN from Jim Day that the Reds have put Griffey on the disabled list retroactive to April 13 due to a strain in his right knee.

The move probably corresponds with the return of Jason LaRue from the disabled list after he had his knee scoped just before the start of the season, but I guess they could still surprise us and bring up Chris Denorfia or something.

After the Reds brought up Quinton McCracken to fill in the hole in the outfield, it only makes sense to stop taking up a space with one of them. Too bad they made the Reds play for four days with only 24 players.

I’m thinking a trade is in the works, and they just need to buy some time until they can unload one of the catchers. I’ve been wondering about Javy. Couldn’t be LaRue, could it?

Marty and Hal McCoy said they think Womack’s going to be released. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

Two days ago Narron played down Griffey’s injury. Now he is on the DL.

Reminds me of the scene in “The Holy Grail” where the knight is standing there on one leg after his other had been sliced off, and remarks, “It’s just a flesh wound”.

I imagine Junior’s injury isn’t quite that significant, but maybe the Reds are spinning this a litte, I dunno.

Daedalus, we’ve seen so many signs of an impending trade that I’m numb to them. But I agree: if there is a trade it’s probably not LaRue. At this point LaRue is an unknown quantity to other GMs, and I’d think they’d want a sure thing if they were dealing with the Reds.
