Hell, I’ve Got Some Time

I thought the Realtor® was coming over tonight to check out the house, but she called in sick so I've got an evening to sit on my ass and blog about the game as it happens. Never done this before (at least not w/o Bellyscratcher), so it could be a real disaster.
Half an inning in, the Reds have scored three. Hopefully EZ doesn't give 'em up so easy.
Oh yes. After a nice tooth brushing, the tot chased me around his bedroom and then we read one Dora book and two Maisy books. He’s not happy that he has to go to bed when the sun is still up, but he’s plenty tired when the time comes.
Woo, Ramirez is going inside on some of these fellas. I could get to like that.
That’s two swinging strike-outs in the bottom of the seventh for EZ: Clayton and Schneider. Now we’re seeing the pinch hitter for Hernandez, Marlon Anderson.
And a fly out to Ryan Freel in center field. Three up, three down for the young lizard. After seven, the Reds lead 4-2.
That’s the trick, make sure you tire them out instead of the other way around. 🙂
Baseball Reference confirms that Elizardo Ramirez had a grand total of zero career base hits coming into tonight, so the single in the seventh was indeed his first major league hit.
He’s also still looking for his first major league win. Interesting that he should get his first hit before his first win, being a pitcher and all.

That’ll do it for Hernandez, Eischen relieves to start the eighth.
Hernandez goes seven innings, allowing eight hits, four runs, one walk, three strikeouts, and threw 91 pitches, 61 of them for strikes.
Eischen’s ERA so far this season: 14.21

After that swinging K, Kearns flied out. Gosh, there have been a lot of fly-outs by the Reds tonight.
Damn, spoke too soon. Hatteberg grounded out to first. Middle of eight, Reds up 4-2.
Harang too, he had the only RBI in the game against carpenter.

I looked at the wrong line on Hernandez, he threw 118 pitches, 66 strikes. The numbers above were Ramirez’s through seven.
And it’ll be Brian “Radio” Shackelford for the Reds.
So long as he doesn’t make us get out the “Ram” Shackelford nickname. That fly of Vidro’s to DEEEEEEP left field was pretty scary.
Howdy, Joel. Yeah, I think after 91 pitches by Ramirez, I probably would have brought in Shack to start the eighth.

I love that the RFK crowd is booing him, as if he purposely hit the guy. Why would he do that? Reds pitchers don’t even hit batters when it’s appropriate!
But at least Coffey is sprinting his way onto the field now.
Heh…what did we say about Reds pitchers coming inside on guys? Shack comes WAY inside on Big Johnson. First and second with one out for Guillen.

OK, bottom of the eighth and the Nats got runners on first and third with two outs. Can Coffey do something with Zimmerman to keep this from getting out of hand?
And the answer is yes! Fly out to right field. After eight, the Reds continue to lead it 4-2.

Vidro has to move his hands faster than that if he want to get the stealing Phillips. Move a little quicker, and the player-of-the-week is out by a mile.
I hope they score like nine runs off this guy. I’m from Buffalo, and Jon Rauch was the name of the worst head coach in Buffalo Bills history. I know, that’s football…but I do not like the guy’s name, and I hope the Reds hand him his you-know-what. 🙂
Javy flies out and Aurilia pinch hits for Coffey. Damn; I wouldn’t have minded a second cup.

The Reds take a 2-run lead into the bottom of the ninth. Can the bullpen shut the door?
Aurilia’s staying in to play third, removing Encarnacion’s scatter-arm from the defensive picture. Good move by Narron.

Well, there you go. After that scary lead-off walk, Weathers gets a strike out, a ground out, and a fly out to close out the game.
Sorta makes you wonder if he was just screwing with them with that walk. He wouldn’t do that though, would he?
Whatever. Reds win!
Cool, Ramirez gets his first major league win and his first major league hit in the same game, Weathers gets another save, the Reds get another win and go to 13-7.
The Marlins are beating the Cubs, 3-0 in the eighth.
13-7. Can you believe it?

Yep, last year they were 12-7, then went on a losing streak and fell into the cellar. Hopefully this year will be a LOT different.
