What Have the Mets Got Against Us?

I heard on ESPN that the Mets are running Dave Williams out against the Cardinals tonight. So just when you thought Williams couldn't hurt the Reds anymore, he's suddenly in a position to put them one more half game out of first.

At least he's going against Jason Marquis.

When I went to the Mets site to verify that Williams was, indeed, their intended starter, I noticed the game wrap from yesterday's game, Mets show Cards who's boss. I thought this must surely be homage to my own story with a very similar name, Reds Show Cards 'Who's the Boss?', but I was disappointed that Tony Macelli wasn't mentioned once.

well, williams got a standing O when he left. we couldn’t have asked anything more from him if he were wearing a reds uniform.

    yay!

Yay! indeed. Half a game back, baby, soon to be zero!

Dave Williams is not as bad as he appeared… he had a very good season last year for the Pirates. He was great in the minor leagues. I don’t think anyone gave him any love because he was an O’brien acquisition and because he was traded for Casey…

Casey is looking like a real bum these days, so all those people who were in an uproar over that deal should be ashamed of themselves. Casey got thrown out at first base today, for Christ’s sake!

Unfortunately for Williams, last season and minor league appearances don’t count. Not that I’m complaining about his appearance last night!

As for Casey: do you mean he was picked off first? Because being thrown out at first seems like a pretty normal thing for a baseball player to do.

NO… Casey got thrown out by the leftfielder because he failed to run out what should have been a basehit. He thought the line drive would get caught and he started to turn around before he realized it got through. Pathetic. Nice guy, but totally slow as a turtle (remember all those double plays last year) and more concerned about socializing than winning. basically the exact opposite of Pete Rose.

Thrown out at first by the left fielder? That’s a horse of a different color.

I saw the “highlight” of that Casey play while I was at the gym during lunch. What a doofus!
