Free Reds Stuff at Blood Drive

Reds/Hoxworth Blood Drive

The Reds/Hoxworth Blood Drive presented by Entertainment Solutions

On Monday, June 4, 2007 from 1 to 7 p.m., the Cincinnati Reds and Hoxworth Blood Center will “hit a home run” for patients in local hospitals by hosting the inaugural Reds Community Blood Drive at Great American Ball Park, presented by Entertainment Solutions.

The first 100 donors will receive a free Reds ball cap and gift bag containing Reds promotional items and coupons. All donors will receive free parking in the Great American Ball Park garage. Look for the parking attendants near the Pete Rose Way garage entrance.

Donors reserve a donation time at: www.hoxworth.org/reds or by calling (513) 451-0910.

The summer months can be very stressful on the blood supply. Major accidents and traumas can increase blood usage at local hospitals, while blood donations drop off considerably. Your donation at the blood drive will go directly to patients in greater Cincinnati hospitals.

The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) will be at the drive to sign up donors to the national bone marrow registry for free! ($52 value)

The LifeCenter Organ Donor Network will have representatives at the drive to speak with donors about the importance of being an organ donor.

Am I understanding this correctly? They actually charge people to sign up as donors???

What next? Charging people who want to donate blood?

(For the record, I am in the marrow registry. But I wouldn’t be, if I had to pay.)

Yo, BF, what’s up with your boyz in NYC? Biggest payroll in baseball and they be down there with Tampa Bay takin’ turns kickin’ rat turds around the floor in the AL East cellar? You better tell your boy Torre to start kickin’ some serious bootay or he gonna find himself headin’ up the list of candidates to replace Narron in Cinci. No blamin’ it on that black kitten they found in the tarp, either. That kind o’ crap only flies in Chicago.

And – oh, yeah – the Bats might have beat the Bisons like a redheaded stepchild last week, but Buffalo is still ahead of Rochester in the standings.

    😀

I blame “The Curse of the Bubbino.” The Yanks just haven’t been the same since they DFA’d Bubba Crosby. 😛

Seriously, I think the payroll is a one reason they are struggling. That big payroll is because they have a lot of veteran stars. Now they are all growing old at the same time. And being veteran stars, they have contracts that make it difficult to trade or release them. It makes the roster very inflexible.

It’s also a very one-dimensional team. This has hurt them in the post-season in previous years, but is hurting them in the regular season now. They’ve lost a lot of games because of their inferior defense.

They’ve also been extremely unlucky. And I’m not just talking about the three promising rookie pitchers they lost to injury in a month. Unlike last year, the projections this year say Boston really is better. But they aren’t 13.5 games better. They’re maybe 7 or 8 games better. If the Yanks were only 7 or 8 games back, few would be panicking.
