Very nice obituary. Like you, I came sort of late to baseball (and even later to the Reds). I didn't grow up with Joe, so I don't have the memories everyone else has. But he was obviously deeply loved. I'm kind of in awe. Yankee fans lost Phil Rizzuto earlier this year, but the reaction wasn't nearly as intense. Perhaps because the Scooter had retired 10 years earlier, and many younger fans didn't really remember him.

RIP, Joe.

The action of leaving the lights off at GABP (mentioned by the previous commenter) is a great tribute to Joe. He will be missed by Reds fans and the greater Cincinnati community.

I was able to listen to some of the remembrance on 700 WLW today. Very touching.

The Reds had a press conference where they said that the stadium will be dark at night throughout the offseason except for the "rounding third and heading for home" sign and Joe's statue on Crosley Terrace. I think that's pretty cool.

Also, <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/photo?slug=ccd970d40d0d469099825555f74504c7.obit_nuxhall_baseball_ohdk102&prov=ap" rel="nofollow">people are leaving red roses and mementoes around his statue</a>.
