Chris and George again tonight, and I can’t even tell you what a relief I found their performance last night. I think I might have to start deciding whether I listen to the game on the radio or catch it on t.v. based on where Thom isn’t broadcasting.
But with George comes the George-isms. Who wants to lay down a bet on how long it will be before he mentions Jim Edmonds? I can probably come up with a prize.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
He won’t have that much to say. Cardinals took a 6-2 loss vs. the Giants today. Edmonds didn’t play. Aurilia extended his hitting streak to 12 games for San Fran.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
Doesn’t matter. He WILL find a way.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Woo-hoo! Freel walks and Phillips brings them both in. Great to see the Reds’ with an early lead.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
All right, Hamilton. Double off the wall.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Well, I like the way this game has started out. 2-0 Reds already!
April 19th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
I’m very pleased to say that our prospective house passed its inspection today with flying colors today, so nothing stands in the way for us moving except the current residents moving out. Closing date is May 18.
Hooty-hoo!
April 19th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
*LOVE* those off-the-wall doubles. Reds up 0-3
April 19th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Ah, so you’ve found a new home! Now you get to the part that’s really fun. Moving.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
FREEL!
April 19th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Congrats on the new house!
Are the Reds this good, or this Woody fellow that bad?
I’m leaning toward the latter. Ross got a hit off him.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Hah! Freel robs Everett and the ‘Strohs are gone in the 2nd.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
The Reds’ three-run outburst in the first inning raised Williams’ ERA to 6.50 for the year. I think he started the game at 5.40.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Speaking of guys’ ERA going up, BF, I see the Yankees laid a six-spot on Joe Borowski in the bottom of the ninth to help the Indians snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this afternoon. And we thought Coffey had it rough…
April 19th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
Yeah, and it started with two outs, none on!
A-Rod hit yet another homer. That’s ten in 14 games.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
I don’t mind moving so much. Back in my college years I moved something like 15 times, so it’s felt strange to be in one place for so long.
It was weird because we were at the house with the inspector…and so were the current residents! There was just the youngest son there when we first arrived. When we got up o his room, the smell of incense was overwhelming and the window was open, with a chair and a trash can right up next to them. We wondered whether his stash came with the house.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
I think that the Reds just know Williams well. It’s those neophytes that they have the trouble with.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Yep, the Alex Madrid effect lives on.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Did anyone see the original title on this story on Reds.com? At first it said:
[em]Manager Narron Looks for Hustlers[/em]
I guess they thought it sounded too much like Narron was censoring the clubhouse reading materials, because now it says a rather boring:
[em]Notes: No double-standard on hustle[/em]
I think I should make “Looking for Hustlers” into one of my tag lines.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Dreamhost isn’t such a dream after all.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Lost you for awhile there, RHM. Dreamhost isn’t such a dream after all.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
ok, it’s back. Hamilton, three-run dinger, it’s 6-1, Reds.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Did I just hear George and Chris ripping off RHM’s jokes?
I think I did.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Dang. I missed the “looking for hustlers” headline.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
I was just about to link to that, Zel! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who remembers.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
I saw it! But it wasn’t up for very long. By the time I clicked on the link, it was gone. Vanished! From existence.
Too bad you didn’t get a screen grab.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
we might have a candidate for Rookie of the year !
April 19th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
This Post article really cracked me up:
Before the game, Freel – who now appears to be the team’s third catcher – was asked about the possibility of playing all nine positions during a game and how he’d approach an appearance on the mound.
Turns out Freel has thought about a similar scenario.
“I already have it pretty much planned out,” Freel said. “I’m going to throw the first one behind the guy’s head, just to make him think that he doesn’t know what the heck is going on. Then, I’ll probably groove in a strike. Hopefully, he doesn’t hit a home run. Then I’ll throw the next one over his head again, and then we’ll kind of play around like that.”
But what if the batter charges the mound?
“I’m hoping (Adam) Dunn can get in from left field,” Freel said. “Either that or I’ll run into left field and hide behind Dunn. He’s not going to catch me, I can tell you that.”
What a character!
April 19th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Might have a candidate? What other rookie is there that’s gotten the press Hamilton has? He’s definitely a candidate. Probably the early (very early) favorite.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
What other rookie is there that’s gotten the press Hamilton has?
Daisuke Matsuzaka.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
ROTY picked a good time to connect, too. Astros get on the board in the top of the inning, he hits a three-run shot in the home half to take the wind right back out of their sails. Gotta love that.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
I think Enrique Cruz may give him a run for ROTY.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Daisuke has probably gotten more press. But he kinda sucks. And he’s in the American League.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Luke Scott, he of two first names and one solo shot.
Dice-K *has* had the coverage, but he hasn’t had the performance.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
April 19th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Matsuzaka has been okay. Worth what Boston paid for him, IMO.
And it’s early yet. Very early. Performance at the end of the season is likely to have more weight than performance at the beginning.
Look at A-Rod. He’s on pace for 115 home runs this season. I seriously doubt he’ll maintain that pace. And fans and journalists alike will have short memories if he slumps in August and September.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Crack Hard Facts Staff, I’m afraid your comment got eaten. Damn NightmareHost!
April 19th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
RHM, I meant to refresh the page but unfortunately I tried to do it with the “submit” button instead of the browser’s reload button. My bad.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Heh. Freel’s a hustler. Heh heh.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
I checked Daisuke’s stats and was surprised. He’s done better than the impression I’d received from ESPN. I don’t think he’s worth $100 million, though.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
That’s true!
I haven’t seen him go to second on a walk yet, but other than that he’s basically Charlie Hustle the Second.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Norris Hopper makes his 2007 debut for the Reds in left field as adefensive replacement for Freel’s bodyguard.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
And now “Inclement” Weathers is in the game to stop the scoring. There’s one out in the eighth with the Reds up 6-3. Should Weathers get out of this unscathed, will he pitch the 9th?
Does him pitching 1 2/3 innings to close out a game make anyone feel comfortable?
April 19th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
And Narron is apparently intent on burning through his whole bullpen in one inning again.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
But what’s the alternative? Letting a struggling pitcher stay in, and losing the game?
April 19th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
DAMMIT
What the hell is wrong with the bullpen? We can’t blame it on Rick White this year.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Weathers probably would have been out of the inning had Gonzalez turned the double play. Nice meltdown by the Reds this inning.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
BOOOOOOOOOOOO
April 19th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
If I was Arroyo I’d be trashing the water cooler right about now.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
I’m sure he started drinking a few innings ago. He ought to be good and mellow by now.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
The bullpen is being massively overused, but I’m not sure what the problem is. Starters being pulled too soon? Too much lefty-righty matchup crap? Or do they just suck?
April 19th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
I do think Narron’s overdoing it with the lefty/righty matchups, but I also think Zeldink’s right, Weathers got the ground ball that could have ended the inning, the defense botched it.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Narron’s strong suit has never been bullpen management, but it’s hard to say why the relievers suck so much now when they were so good a week ago.
Why was Arroyo taken out when he was? It seemed early to me.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
And all we can do is wish and say what-if and wait for the bullpen’s salvation: Gary Majewski.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Arroyo was up to 96 pitches according to the Associated Press feed.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
I just can’t believe it. We seemed so deep in pitching in spring training. Now…
April 19th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
Last round-up time for the Reds. At the beginning of the game, it looked so much like we wouldn’t have to hear George utter those words!
Here’s a question for you: on whom will Narron take out his anger? He loves Weathers; I don’t think it’s going to be him. Coffey is making himself a prime target with his pitching lately.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
And my pager is going off, I’m going to have to duck out.
Sorry, duty calls. Bye for now!
April 19th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Castro should be DFA’d for that swing.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:47 pm
Go get ‘em, HMZ
April 19th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
I’m thinking that Coffey seems a prime candidate. I believe he has options, too. Assuming either of Bray or Majewski are healthy and ready, I could see Coffey being shipped down to make room for one of them.
Something has to be done, and I think that might be the easiest at this point.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
Wowza that sucked. But it was nice to chat with you guys, while my site was up. Thanks for dropping by.
Weathers got the ground ball that could have ended the inning, the defense botched it.
That’s true. Defense counts. Freakin’ Luke Scott (or is Scott Luke?) made two great plays in right field that probably kept runs off the board.
While we had all kinds of problems. A-Gon missing that catch. (Though he probably has other things on his mind, understandably.) Ross kicking one (literally).
Funny, they were supposed to be improving the pitching and defense…
