Poor In-game Manager vs Radio Host Attacker
By Amanda
The Reds try to bounce back tonight against the Phillies. Say what you will about Jerry Narron, but he's not talking about putting his number one starter in the bullpen. I mean, how much would it suck to see Aaron Harang pitching in the seventh inning?
…um…yeah.
C. Trent's got the line-ups:
Redlegs
Ryan Freel CF
Adam Dunn LF
Brandon Phillips 2B
Josh Hamilton RF
Edwin Encarnación 3B
Scott Hatteberg 1B
Alex Gonzalez SS
David Ross C
Kyle Lohse P
Phillies
Jimmy Rollins SS
Shane Victorino RF
Chase Utley 2B
Pat Burrell LF
Wes Helms 1B
Aaron Rowand CF
Abraham Nunez 3B
Carlos Ruiz C
Jon Lieber P

I’m very fond of Jimmy Rollins. I especially like when he flies out to Ryan Freel.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Griffey’s still sick. It’s really nice for the team to be in a position where junior being out doesn’t kill ‘em.
Victorino grounds out. Two away.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
Chase Utley has a verb for a name. One of my favorite verbs-for-names, right after “Wade.” There used to be a guy on the Mickey Mouse Club–back when it was age-appropriate for me–named Chase. He was soooo cute, and went on to for the short-lived musical group The Party with other MMC members. Weird, dude.
Oh, and Utley struck out. Go Lohse!
April 20th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Ryan Freel flies out to CF. Darn it.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Dunn barely makes it to the outfield. These 1-2-3-type innings are more fun at the top of the inning.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
Phillips strikes out looking. Bummerooni.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
The ground ball to EdE rolled up his arm and he dove to try to catch it off himself. I wonder whether he gets credit for trying.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
Lohse still rocking the 1-hitter in the middle of two. He’s looking good.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
Lieber’s not bad, either. Hamilton out on one pitch.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Hey, where are my game thread contributors? Do you guys have lives or something??
April 20th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Hi, BF! Great to have you here. I feel a little crazy talking to myself.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Did you see Steve Stewart on the pre-game show? I’m so glad that the Reds haven’t cut ties with him entirely. I always really liked him, but now that I’ve had even more basis for comparison, I like him even more.
Lohse strikes out another one.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
It’s Ryan Freel dirty shirt night, which is really redundant. Tomorrow is fleece blanket night and the big Screaming Mimes concert after the game. Sunday is the kids’ Ryan Freel dirty shirt night. I should have gone to Cincy this weekend.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
OK! Agon on second to lead off the inning.
Oh no, Ross is up.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
You’re never talking to yourself. There are four lurkers for every poster. They’re listening, you just don’t know it.
I am following the game on Gameday for now, so no pregame show for me.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
…and he’s out. Ugh.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
Dang it! Base runner wasted.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:51 pm
Chad Moeller cleared waivers and accepted a minor league assignment. He reports to Louisville on Monday.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
I’ve been a lurker myself. It’s kind of fun in a voyeuristic kind of way.
Hi lurkers!
April 20th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
The Party! Good times.
“In my dreams it’s still the same
You’re love is strong, it still remains.”
I think I would have preferred they hit it big instead of the Mouseketeers that did.
I’m in from mowing the lawn and see the game’s scoreless. Did I miss anything?
April 20th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Well, I guess it doesn’t hurt to have another catcher kicking around Louisville.
How’s Bubba doing? And, are you watching the Yankee game?
April 20th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
You didn’t miss much, Zel. That DP just now was the most awesome thing of the game. Right up there with the most awesome things of the season. Web gem, baby.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Amazing play by Phillips there. After tagging the runner in front of him, he threw to first base while falling! Very nice.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
Boo another strike out for Dunn.
Hooray beer!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
What? Hamilton didn’t get a hit? I don’t understand.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
I’m watching the Yankees game. The Sox are honoring Celtics great Red Auerbach tonight, so are wearing their green jerseys. I’m going blind, looking at those green jerseys with red undershirts and socks. Big Papi looks like a massively overgrown Christmas elf.
Bubba had a very odd game last night. No hits, but some great at-bats that resulted in two walks. And he made a terrific play in right field, running down a ball and making a circus catch on the warning track. But he threw it to Wise, who was looking in for the cutoff man and missed it. So it was a two-run sac fly. Tied the game, sent it to OT, and the Bats lost in the bottom of the 11th.
It was that kind of day. The Bats lost a heartbreaker in OT, the Reds lost after racking up what seemed like a safe lead. It was the opposite for the Yanks: they were down 2-6, two outs, none on, bottom of the 9th. They rallied, scoring 6 runs to win.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Jeez. What the hell was that by Phillips?
April 20th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
The Red Sox are honoring a Celtic? Are cross-sports promotions popular on the east coast?
I can’t imagine the Reds honoring any of the Bengals, unless it was national bad boy day.
What the Hell, Phillips?
April 20th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Chris Welsh: “David Ross will be the first to tell you that–”
Me: “he sucks!”
April 20th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
I don’t know if the Sox would honor the Patriots, but the Celtics…I dunno, they have some weird connection.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
We’re looking at Google Maps of our new house. It’s going to be difficult to wait until May 18.
Ross at the plate again. Can he get something going to even up this score? Or at least prevent Lohse from leading off the next inning?
April 20th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
C’mon offense, where you at? Lohse is pitching a gem; he doesn’t deserve a 1-0 L.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Lohse didn’t leg it out. Bench him!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
It took a screw up by Nuñn, but Freel’s on second. Let’s go Redlegs!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Errant pick-off move puts Freel on third. Dude, MY pick-off would be better than that!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Too bad Donkey couldn’t come through there. Who’s next?
April 20th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Dammit Dunner!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Well, Phillips walked. Can Hamilton pull an ARod here?
April 20th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
A-Rod just hit another homer. That’s 12 in 15 games!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
It’s gotta feel good to be a rookie commanding your own pitcher.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Great patience for Hamilton. Nice job, lad!
But, yikes, it’s the ice-cold EdE coming up. Perhaps being in Javy?
April 20th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Hamilton has such patience. EdE has none.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Freel shoulda stole home.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Arrghhh. I can’t believe they let that opportunity slip away.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
EdE definitely didn’t come through, but let’s also not forget about Dunn not coming through as well. Even Hamilton failed to make contact with his strikes.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Dunn! Man, this guy has turned over a new leaf. Good for him.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Uh-oh. Here comes the bullpen.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Oh boy. Another hit batter by the bullpen. Here we go again.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
And there’s a runner. HBP. There have been a lot of those lately.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Stanton again? Keep this up, and some lucky fan is going to get a unique souvenir, when Stanton’s arm falls off and goes flying into the stands.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Look! It’s the double play that would have secured a win last night!
April 20th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Yippee! DP. Phillips is on fire with the DPs tonight. Not so much with the relays, but the DPs are awesome.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
I love the way Thom goes on at length about the Phillies reliever and guy taking over in the infield before casually metioning–oh yeah–there’s a pinch hitter.
Go Hopper!
Oh, K. Nevermind.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Dunn walks. Can Phillips make up for his error at the plate?
April 20th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
This game is extremely aggravating.
C’mon, Reds! Please beat up this wife-beater.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
Wife beater? It looks like a regular baseball jersey to me.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Guess not.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
You know, going into this season, I expected to hate Conine, but it turns out I don’t mind him at all. What I didn’t seem coming was my distaste for Alex Gonzalez.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
I guess its safe to use Coffey when were already losing….
April 20th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Coffey’s managed not to hit anyone so far, so you’ve got to give him some credit for that.
All right! No further runs score.
Can someone PLEASE push a run across this inning?
April 20th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Coffey said he was going to stop going inside to lefties. He wasn’t doing it last year, and thinks he was more successful.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
It would be nice. But then we’d be relying on the bullpen to hold a tie.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
Did I just miss the first out of the inning, or are the Reds starting innings with an out now?
I’m surprised that EdE is hitting.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
I was commenting on the fact that he did a good job. he just likes to blow leads. If we don’t have the lead, he can’t blow it. So we should only use him when we’re losing.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
I mean, not [em]hitting[/em], of course.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
HATTEBURG !!!!!!
sweeeeeet
April 20th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
Hattey!
April 20th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
My comment wasn’t actually in response to yours, Redsfan68. I just took a long time to type it and didn’t see yours until after it was posted.
Looks like that, though, doesn’t it?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hatte!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 20th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
Hamilton got the first out. Grounded out on the second pitch.
And in Louisville, the game is delayed due to a power outage. I mean electricity.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
That’s the Flash Gordon I remember…
April 20th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Coutlangus on the mound. Seems like as good a choice as any. Better to give Stormy the night off, methinks, though Narron’s probably just saving him for the 11th.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Was it last year that the power went out at GABP? I wonder how many pockets were picked in the dark.
Damn with another HBP.
Cool with another DP.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Some coutlangus to set up a home run ??
its worked for me before…..
April 20th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
LLM in scoring position…
can’t pinch run for him
damn the only time we could have used that third catcher…
April 20th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Dunn up with one out and a runner in scoring position again. C’mon, come through this time!
April 20th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Ball 2. Close at the knees.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
Ball 3.
April 20th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
Ball 4. Bases loaded with one out for Phillips!
April 20th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
Phillips! We don’t need a home run here.
April 20th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
BRANDON!!
Happy day!
April 20th, 2007 at 10:03 pm
wooot wooot !!!!
April 20th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
Now that’s the way to make up for the error!
Go Reds! And the bullpen was good again. Too bad Lohse didn’t get the win, though.
April 20th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
Coutlangus wins it !!
April 20th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
And he came through! Woohoo!
Much better game than last night’s
April 20th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
Man, this feels so much nicer than the other games recently.
Thanks for hanging in there, guys. It’s nice to chat with y’all.
April 20th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
I was at the game, folks! Holy SHEEEIT was that stressful as hell going to the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs. We all wrote em off mentally but no one left, because damn near nothing happened all game long.. people stuck around to see something happen and god damn if Hatteberg didn’t come thru for us. Cofffey looked like a new man out there and we all went home happy.. well, no, not exactly happy because it seems 30,000+ fans shoed up to a game and they only had 10,000 t-shirts to giveaway. So that Ryan Freel T-Shirt is a collectible.
