The same post says :
Junior is available to pinch-hit today. Jerry said he could have started, but with an off day yesterday, it's just as well to give him the two days off in a row
which doesn't make sense to me. All I can figure is he meant the off game TOMORROW (not yesterday) and that he'll make it FOUR days off in a row (not two).
Whatever. I'm just glad to see Javy starting.

Not off to a great start here…

Indeed. My mother-in-law came over to drop off my son after his weekly overnight visit, and before I know it the Phillies are already up by 2.
April 22nd, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Two outs in the bottom of the second and it just doesn’t seem like the Reds are getting anything together. This story is getting old.
April 22nd, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Jeff Keppinger is in Louisville to rehab his broken finger. Maybe he’ll turn out to be the righty bat they need in Cincinnati?
April 22nd, 2007 at 1:47 pm
What a beautiful day, though. It’s a shame that all these fans are finally coming out for the game (before the end of school even!) and are getting this crappy play.
April 22nd, 2007 at 1:50 pm
And to think, Belisle looked so good in spring training.
April 22nd, 2007 at 1:58 pm
It would be great if the Reds could solve their problems with their farm system. I’m not crazy about the idea of another trade, since I’m not seeing much that the Reds have an excess of.
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:01 pm
Not just that, he’s looked so good so far this season. He may just be having a bad outing.
On the other hand, maybe it’s an organizational strategy. The starting pitching has been decent and the offense has failed to come through. Maybe they think if they tell Belisle to be bad, the offense will step up. :hehe:
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:02 pm
Man, Dunn is crazy in the field lately! Freel’s rubbing off or something.
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:03 pm
All right! Triple for Freel. Of course, there are two outs, so it doesn’t look good…
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:12 pm
What? Did BP just steal 2B on a pitchout???
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Come on, Javy!
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:29 pm
Sac fly. Better than nothing!
Come on, EdE!
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Nice steal, Hamilton.
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Demmit.
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:34 pm
So, late last night we were driving home late and I was falling asleep in the passenger seat when Jonny suddenly exclaims “What the heck?!”
We were being pulled over. Jonny apparently was swerving, probably because he was trying to take off his shoes while driving, but maybe because he was as tired as I was.
It sucks to be a grown-up sometimes. In college, I never had trouble staying up until midnight.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:01 pm
All right Hatte!
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:05 pm
Just wait until you’re like my parents, and have trouble staying up until 8 or 9pm.
Though your chances of reaching that point are probably greater if you refrain from changing your clothes while driving…
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:07 pm
Wow, I hadn’t realized Matt Smith had made the big leagues.
He’s the guy the Yanks traded for Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle.
Probably better for him. He’d probably still be in Triple-A if he stayed with the Yankee system.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:16 pm
I *was* very glad to be entirely dressed when the cop pulled us over.
Man, it seems like every time I look up the Reds are mounting a comeback in a different inning. Yet their score remains at 1.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:16 pm
Bases loaded, two away. This is killing me.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:21 pm
Well, it could have been worse. Could have been better, too.
Did they send BP, or did he blow through a stop sign?
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:31 pm
I couldn’t tell. Phillips is pretty quick, and I can certainly see the benefit of taking the risk. It’s not like you can count on the bats!
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Javy makes a HORRIBLE throw to second. Dammit, Ross will be starting every game for the rest of the season!
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Throwing error on EdE. You guys have played baseball before, right?
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:36 pm
I’m only following on Gameday, but it didn’t look deep enough to send anyone from 2B.
Well, maybe if it was Bernie Williams fielding the ball…
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:37 pm
Ugh. Double-switch immediately after EdE’s error. It was convenient that EdE was also the last out of the previous inning, because he gets to be substituted with Castro. But since it’s a double-switch, it is effectively pinch-hitting with Castro.
I hate that.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:42 pm
EdE was 2-for-4 last night. He’s driven in a run today. And Castro just had an error himself. EdE isn’t actually doing so badly lately, but even if he were I wouldn’t object to responding to his performance if they seemed to be responding to anyone else’s.
The interaction with the players is Narron’s strong suit; strong enough to make up for his dearth of in-game management skill. If he can’t deal with the players in a way that’s constructive and fair, I don’t know why we’d continue to keep him around.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:59 pm
I actually look forward to this being over. I could use a nap. :doze:
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:06 pm
7-2.
This game sucks.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:13 pm
Someone said Jr. has diverticulitis. Does that mean he’s going on the DL?
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:15 pm
Knowing the Reds, they’ll say he’s day-to-day and refuse to free up a roster spot until he hasn’t played for three weeks.
That’s horrible; I hope he’s doing OK. Where did you hear that?
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:21 pm
Someone over at RR said Marty said it, but I haven’t heard anything official. I asked Trent about it. Trent says Jr. was available to play, Narron just chose not to play him.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:28 pm
OK, bottom of the ninth. The only number on the line-score that’s less than the Reds’ score is the number of Phillie’s errors.
I’m going to stay awake for this, and then take a nap. Dunn’s up. Nobody on. Zero outs. 1-2.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:28 pm
Dunn Ks to a resounding chorus of boos. Apparently the only fans left are the ones there to heckle.
Javy’s at the plate with one away. 1-1. Griffey’ in the on-deck circle.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:30 pm
Yep, Thom’s confirming the diagnosis. Wild. Get well soon, Griff!
2-2 on Javy.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:31 pm
Javy walks. It’s the tiny strike zone.
Griffey’s up with one away and one on.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:32 pm
Griffey hits one to the wall in left center to bring in Javy. 9-3 Reds. Yippee! The Reds have achieved the square root of their opponent’s score!
Agon up with one away and Griff on second. 1-1.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:34 pm
Agon grounds out to SS. Griffey doesn’t even move to third. 2 away.
And Castro coming to the plate. Yikes. 0-1.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Ugh. Diverticulitis sounds nasty. Conservative treatment is not eating until the colon heals, and IV fluids. More aggressive treatment is surgery.
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Groundout to second, and that’s the ballgame.
BOOOO
The Reds get tomorrow to think about what they’ve done. I hope they’ve gotten it together for Tuesday.
I’m taking a nap. Thanks for coming by, BF.
