How do you platoon two lefties? I hate the idea of platooning Votto anyway. He needs to play every day, or it will stunt his development. I wonder if they're planning to trade him. MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that many teams are interested in Hatteberg, but the Reds won't trade him. I just don’t see how this is going to work. Would much rather have a vet in the lineup for that matchup, even though Hatte is only 1 for 11 vs Webb in his career. They aren't going to let Votto ride pine for long, he will probably start game 2 and maybe 3 also unless hatte is on fire. I am not concerned about that. he has nothing left to prove in AAA so no reason to send him down just to give him more ABs. Votto will get plenty of ABs.. but we are going against Webb. Trent both reporting that Dusty has indicated Cueto is starting game #3. I don't like it, I thought Volquez was a decidedly stronger candidate as evidenced by his spring numbers. He is also older and has actual major league experience, albeit with mixed results. I think Cueto's future is a bright one, but #3 this soon? Wasn't he in single A to start last season? This seems like a colossal jump and he might not be ready for the middle of the rotation. With Volquez pitching in a minor league game today I don't know if its too late for him to get the starting nod on Thursday or not, but I am still hoping he is the #3 pitcher. Fay and C.
