A lot of people talked about this game as being demoralizing. While it wasn’t as easy a loss to predict as today’s Arroyo/Carpenter matchup, I didn’t find it to be the punch-in-the-gut that some did. The positive of Bailey’s performance outshone the eventual loss.

Hard to imagine them trading Bailey at this point. He’s only had the one good start, and it’s not like he’s going to be a free agent at the end of the year. Stranger things have happened though.

It’s a shame that the manager/bullpen/shortstop wasted the effort, but for the first time, Homer Bailey showed me something tonight. He was hitting 97 on the gun, his arm slot was consistent, and he commanded his pitches.

Very impressive outing. His trade value just went through the roof…but if this is any indication of how he’s going to turn out, I hope they keep him in Cinci. Along with Cueto and Volquez, the Reds could soon have three guys in the rotation who are among the best in the game.
