And for once, it's a loss that I don't think Baker had anything to do with. Given how quickly everything derailed in the 1st, it would have taken a clairvoyant to salvage anything from that mess.

The Reds have had some terrible pitching the last couple games. Arroyo was expected, considering he's very clearly injured, but Cueto's hurt a little more. When your best pitcher does that, ouch.

But hey, Paul Janish got some playing time. He does exist! Too bad he raised his ERA.

Wow, indeed. OMG, what a butt-whuppin' that was.

However...I think the Phillies are not as good nor the Reds as bad as that game would tend to indicate. The Phillies may be better than the Reds, but 19 runs better? I doubt that. I doubt if the Red Sox are even 19 runs better than the Nationals.

FWIW, I also think we've already seen this year's Reds bounce back from other defeats that would have crushed the spirits of the other Reds teams from recent years.

Also FWIW, in 2007, the eventual WS champion Red Sox were beaten 14-0 by the Braves; In 2006, the eventual WS champion Cardinals were beaten 20-6 by the White Sox; In 2003, the eventual WS champion Marlins were beaten 25-8 by the Red Sox, 16-2 by the Cubs, and 14-0 by the Phillies. Teams - even good ones - do get blown out sometimes. It's just a fluke, one game in a long season, one in which everything went right for the Phillies and nothing went right for the Reds.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Harang shut them out tonight.
