With all the confusion this morning, I'm only mostly sure that this is the line-up for this afternoon's game:

    Bellhorn is en fuego.

  2. smartelf says:

I missed it…what did Bellhorn do? I like that he’s doing good.. I like that I made an ass outta myself the very first game by calling him out as the one and only bum on the roster.

  3. Red Hot Mama says:

10-3 game. I’ve lost track of the good stuff everyone’s done.

  4. BubbaFan says:

I was just being kind of flip. Bellhorn does seem to be hitting very well, though. It’s 10-3 now, on a walk and a wild pitch.

  5. Red Hot Mama says:

I’m a chronic multi-tasker, so I have trouble following the specifics of the game from the audio. I’ll be glad when I have the Gameday again. Better yet: TV!

  6. BubbaFan says:

I’ll get to watch the March 7 game on TV. It’s at Legends Field, so should air on YES.

  7. Zeldink says:

Another day, another Reds blowout. Spring Training is fun.

  8. BubbaFan says:

And the Pirates announcers are explaining why carrying three catchers is a good thing. They say Pittsburgh is probably going to do that.

  9. Red Hot Mama says:

Wow, what do they say? I’ve never understood why ANYONE would think that carrying 3 catchers is a good idea.

  10. BubbaFan says:

The same reason always given for carrying three catchers. If your backup catcher is a good pinch-hitter, you need a third catcher or you’ll be afraid to put the backup backstop in as a pinch-hitter.

  11. Red Hot Mama says:

Lucky duck to get to watch spring training games on t.v. I saw that the Reds will have one on ESPN, but I’ll already be in Florida by then.

  12. Red Hot Mama says:

I guess there’s something to that, but you can always just stop being afraid! 😀

It probably depends on who the number 3 is. That rare circumstance isn’t worth spending a spot on your 25-man for someone subpar.

  13. Red Hot Mama says:

So, Jerry Narron’s up for spring training manager of the year. In these early spring training games, it’s easy to hide a tendancy to inappropriate pinch hitting. 😉

  14. BubbaFan says:

Er..you get to watch spring training games in person, and think I’m lucky to watch one on TV?!

The Pirates have a ton of young catchers. I’m kind of surprised they don’t trade some of them. Catchers who can hit don’t just grow on trees. Seems kind of waste to convert them to infielders. Or outfielders.

  15. Red Hot Mama says:

We get to watch one week’s worth of games in person. But I wouldn’t trade it.

    Go Tom Shearn!

  16. Red Hot Mama says:

Reds lead 10-3 going into the ninth inning. Meanwhile, I’m multi-tasking playing Kingdom of Loathing. I’m such a geek!

What do you think of the Reds, BF? How to they compare to the Yanks so far?

  17. smartelf says:

I may be arrogant and out-spoken but I’ll be the first to admit an error of judgement… and right now I feel that I underestimated Mark Bellhorn’s value. The guy plays a bunch of positions has power and apparently is capable of making contact despite a horrible history. Maybe he just needed to hook up with his homie Arroyo to get back in the groove. I have no problem with this guy making the team as a utility infielder if he doesn’t strike out every other at-bat.

  18. Red Hot Mama says:

Uh-oh, the Pirates push one across the plate in the bottom of the ninth to make it 10-4.

Oh, not so fast…the ground rule keeps the runner at third. 10-3 still, but there are two on and nobody out.

  19. BubbaFan says:

It’s hard to compare the Yankees and the Reds.

Spring training games are pretty much a formality for the Yankees. There aren’t really any spots up for grabs. Bubba was right on that point. Heck, when he made the roster in 2004, it was a flippin’ miracle. It was so unexpected that Bubba wasn’t even listed in publications like Baseball America. Because rookies don’t make the roster out of spring training in Yankeeland.

So the spring training games for Yankees fans are fun, but frustrating. You get to see the kids, but you know they won’t be making the roster. And that it might be best for them if they are traded. We know who will be taking the field on opening day, and it’s not Kevin Thompson or Bronson Sardinha.

  20. smartelf says:

I think they converted Doumit because he really was terrible defensively as a catcher. Einar Diaz, I have to believe its in his blood if I am right about him being Bo Diaz’ son. They are just built like catchers, short and squatty, you know what I mean? paulino pretty much one the starting job last year when Doumit pulled a groin or a hamstring or something.

  21. Red Hot Mama says:

There you go, the Reds win 10-4. Go Reds!

  22. BubbaFan says:

Someone just logged in from Florida at Reds Reporter. He’s staying in the same hotel with Arroyo, and saw him walking his dog this afternoon. He says Arroyo looked perfectly healthy. 🙂

  23. Red Hot Mama says:

Arroyo ought to have “Prima Donna” tattooed on his butt.

  24. smartelf says:

He already has a picture of his own face on his butt 😎

  25. smartelf says:

    …or so I’ve heard…

  26. BubbaFan says:

We should check that out. I’m sure there would be lots of volunteers. 😉

Shawn notes that Trent has been giving the Reds players nicknames. He says:
Keep working, Trent, you’ll have to go a bit to top Red Hot Mama’s “Latin Love Machine” for Javier Valentin.
Very true! 😉

  27. Red Hot Mama says:

Cue Joel to come tell us how he actually originated “Latin Love Machine”…
