Give it up for the 1990 squad at Redsfest

A popular pastime in the Cincinnati sportsland area is to relive the past. It’s a little sad–like the 20-something working the drive-thru who’s always retelling his school stories. To be fair, every sports fan does that sometime, except for whoever happens to be hot at the moment. Football fans in the Indianapolis area haven’t been dwelling on the past for quite a while now.

But Reds fans are among those who do, and little wonder. If your high school homecoming had been that great, you’d have a hard time focusing on the remembering to offer fire, hot, or mild sauce, too.

And this year, Redsfest is doing their part to feed the nostalgia. According to the marketing email they just sent me:

Wire-to-Wire Champs Highlight This Year’s Redsfest
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the Reds’ unforgettable run to the 1990 World Series championship, and a number of players from that squad will be on hand to celebrate that magical season Dec. 4-5 at FOX Sports Ohio Redsfest, presented by Kahn’s. A dozen players are confirmed so far, including Eric Davis, Tom Browning, Billy Hatcher, Joe Oliver and 2010 Reds Hall of Fame inductee Chris Sabo.

All of the 1990 players and coaches will gather on the Main Stage Friday evening to join with their fellow Reds legends and the current team. During the event, fans will have the opportunity to pose for photos with an oversized 1990 team photo and meet these stars in the autograph and photo booths, in addition to all of the other excitement Redsfest has to offer.

This ought to be a good show, too. Not only are the guys from back then funny as hell, but they’re also above-and-beyond accessible. I mean, this was a team of *winners* and one of them’s even been on my podcast.

I’m psyched. This’ll be like Disney World minus the nice weather but with slightly fewer mascots. You can get tickets here and I’ll see you there. You can be on the podcast.
