The Cincinnati chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America voted Arroyo as winner of both the Johnny Vander Meer Award as the Reds' Most Outstanding Pitcher and the Joe Nuxhall Good Guy Award.
Re the Most Outstanding Pitcher Award: So the message to new pitchers here is to kick ass for the first six weeks and your 11 attempts at win number ten and average end of the season will be completely forgotten.
Re the Good Guy Award: So the message to aspiring baseball writers here is that, if you want to joing the Baseball Writers' Association of America, you'll want to start using crack as soon as possible.
Just in case there are any Reds fans in Massachussetts…Bronson Arroyo is making a personal appearance in Boston. Well, the suburbs of Boston, anyway. He's signing autographs tomorrow at the Natick Mall in Natick, MA.
Your bids are most welcome at my Cincinnati reds memorabilia auction over at Auction Fire (link below). The good cause is keeping me under a roof, because quite frankly I am having trouble making ends meet these days. I have collected a lot of cool Reds memorabilia especially rare baseball cards, so check these auctions out and help me out by placing a bid.
I will be adding several auctions every day, so be sure to keep checking.. right now I mostly have Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns listed, but I also have a sweet Joe Morgan game-used bat baseball card, and Tom Seaver jersey swatch. I also have a George Foster certified autograph card listed. I always try to include some informative background about the player. Tons of great stuff to be added continuously so please help me out so I can continue to blog here at Red-hot-Mama and at redlegs.mlblogs.com.
Another video of a concert performance at Redsfest last month. This songs seems to have something to do with the old Negro League teams, but I still haven't figured out exactly what it's getting at. Pretty, though.
The Reds acquired IF Jeff Keppinger from the Royals for RHP Russ Haltiwanger, and designated for assignment Ray Olemdo.
Keppinger was traded to the Royals last season from the Mets. HE hit .300 in 87 games for Class AAA Norfolk and .354 in 22 games for Omaha. He hit .267 with 2 HR and 8 RBI in 22 games for the Royals last season. Haltiwanger, 22, appeared in 40 games, starting five and had a 0-4 record with 4.15 ERA and a save.
If Olmedo doesn't clear waivers and end up back in the organization, I'll miss the little fella.
