Reds Option Encarnación to Bats

Oh happy day! The Reds have finally taken care of the bullpen!

From C. Trent:

Edwin Encarnacion has been optioned to Louisville and the Reds called up Jeff Keppinger.
….
Wayne said Eddie was initially shocked, but left knowing that it was a chance for him to get better. Wayne also said, “he's still a big part of our future.”

Freel will get much of the playing time at third, with Keppinger playing second and third as well.

Edwin wasn't in the clubhouse. Keppinger was. He said he was called last night and was ready to be here today. They'd been on a 10-day roadtrip, so his bags were already packed. He's wearing No. 27, which is better than the 74 he wore in spring training.

Wow, it worked. Get rid of EE, and presto, a win!

Wow. MLB isn’t kidding when they say, “Miss a day, miss a lot.” I turn my attention away for an afternoon to accompany a lady friend in taking her 9-year old son to the park, and while my back is turned , all hell breaks loose:

    * They banish Eddie The Butcher to Louisville. Well, okay, maybe somebody down there can teach him how to throw the ball to the first baseman rather than into right field. Then again, they obviously forgot to teach him that last time he was down there. So I’m not holding my breath.

    * The Reds put three balls into the seats – none of them on throws – and finally beat the Astros. Well, okay, it’s about doggone time. Then again, I see that Stanton again tried his best to give it back after the offense had the game won. Good thing Alzheimer’s hasn’t yet affected Weathers the way it has Stanton – Stormy seems to still remember how to turn the key.

    * Dunn falls a single short of hitting for the cycle. Well, okay, I’d have thought the triple would have been the missing piece, rather than the single. Then again, he now has two triples this season, which ties his career high. I’m now officially on board with the idea that Dunn’s extra attention to conditioning over the past winter has made him into a better all-around player.

    * Griffey ties Palmeiro on the career HR list. Well, okay, Palmeiro is one of the guys who was ahead of Griffey on that list who is a cheater and arguably shouldn’t even be on that list. So Griffey deserves to pass Palmeiro just on good karma alone. Then again, on that basis he probably also deserves to pass Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire. Forget KGJ being tied for #9 on the official list – he’s #7 on the clean list.

    * Freel steps in at 3B, and while the box score doesn’t say whether he also sold peanuts and beer between innings, Farney goes 2-for-3 with a walk, double, sac bunt, stolen base, and two runs scored. Edwin who?

EE is already down in Louisville.

He’s 0 for 2, with an error already.

    Hello….. Dr. Krivsky ….
    WTF are you thinking ?
this EdE move is like removing a kidney from a patient with heart trouble.

the problem with this team is that the bullpen has blown 10 yes TEN
games. Plus 2-3 games that were tied, or otherwise in reach.

The other problem is a lack of right handed power. I know Edwin hasn’t been hitting that well, but this move makes us even more vulnerable to a good left handed pitcher.
