Bittersweet

As I mentioned yesterday, many strange and wonderful things have happened over these two weeks. Many of them I've shared; a couple I've kept to myself for fear of jinxing them.

Also yesterday I mentioned a very interesting phone call I received. That call was from Joe Kerr, the manager of the Internet Affairs department from ESPN. He contacted me late last week about an opportunity with the sports network to take part in a new, snarky online community, and I would be the Reds' representative.

This was a hard decision for me, because ESPN kinda sucks, whereas I dearly love Red Hot Mama and the community that we've built here.

But at the end of the day, ESPN could offer me a national forum, press credentials, and a big ol' stack of money. Plus a Javier Valentín WBC jersey. Apparently they had a bunch left over, lucky for me.

So, I start tomorrow with the opening game, though I might not really have much to say until the Reds play on Monday. I hope you'll come over and visit me.

In the meantime, I'm going to try to keep up RHM as well, but you've probably noticed what a slacker I am, so I know it won't last. If any of you is willing to take on the challenge of following this act, please drop me a line by clicking my name at the bottom of this post. Women and men are both welcome to apply, though I'll likely make merciless fun of men who are willing to go by “Red Hot Mama.”

This is a terrifying and exciting prevarication. Please wish me luck. And go Reds!

Wow, congrats!! That’s great news. I’m sorry to see this go, but frankly, once you started podcasting, I fully expected you to take over the world.

Please be sure to provide a link to your new digs. This isn’t going to be an ESPN Insider feature, right? … ‘Cause then I’d have to seriously think about becoming a subscriber, and I’ve been trying to limit my subscriptions to baseball prospectus. -jinaz

This is an April Fools RHM Fake News at its best. You can’t fool me, sweetheart.

April Fools, right? This has got to be a joke… Javy Valentin WBC jerseys? Come on!

    Say it fast.

    I got nailed. Well done.

I was totally expecting you to pull a joke since your post last night.

    Still, pretty convincing effort.

Well, I almost fell for this. The part about “you’ve probably noticed what a slacker I am” is where I first smelled a rat. I gotta admit that the Joe Kerr part went right over my head, but RHM, a slacker? NOT!

ESPN does suck, though. This past week they blew the signing of Terrence Long, they reported that the Reds had signed a Terrence Young. That’s inexcusable, Terrence Long was a regular for the A’s, Padres and Royals the past five seasons, it’s not like he’s a guy-you-never-heard-of.

Just a guy that I wish I had never heard of.

‘Prevarication’ is a word I learned from The Natural.

    “A pure canard.”
    “What’s a canard?”
    “A prevarication.”
    “What’s that mean?”
    “A lie.”

  10. Hi…we’re under a tornado warning, so I don’t think I’m going to be able to smack for a little while. I gotta get into the bunker and stuff. If everything clears up and we get our DirecTV back, I’ll hop online.

Yikes! Get in the cellar and watch out for flying monkeys.
