Reds at Cards: June 6 Game Thread
Bellyscratcher and her proxy will both be at the games, live and in person, tonight and tomorrow, but I bet I can still come up with a few smart alecky things to say about the Cardinals. Let's see who's going to be playing for our boys:
Scott Hatteberg 1B
Brandon Phillips 2B
Ken Griffey, Jr. RF
Adam Dunn LF
Edwin Encarnación 3B
Josh Hamilton CF
David Ross C
Juan Castro SS
Bronson Arroyo P
I'm pleased to see Castro batting eighth (though I do wonder whether ninth might not be more appropriate). I'm also interested to see how young Brad Thompson does starting a game. If Arroyo's pattern the last three games holds, and the rest of the team's pattern the last two months holds, Thompson is going to look like a stud.
Hatteberg and Phillips are already up and down. Nice to see that they’re wasting no time. Maybe I won’t be up so late tonight.
And now Griffey’s down, too. Hmmm…the tooth and nail fight I’m going to have to go through to get my 6-year old into the bath tonight is already starting to draw my attention from this game.
Nice play by Castro. 😉
All right! The bottom of the first was just as fast as the top. Yippee!!
It’s the small victories, you know?
I wasn’t even gone long enough for my computer’s screen saver to come on and the game is tied at 1s in the middle of the third! I’m going to have to go check out the GameDay.
And in Louisville…the worst-hitting team in the IL, the Charlotte Knights, beat Bobby Livingston about the face and neck tonight. He gave up four singles, three doubles, and six runs in the 5th innning. Wilkerson came in to get the final out.
And Craig Wilson’s batting average is looking a lot better, since he’s 3 for 4 so far tonight.
Wow. I guess everyone has a bad night.
But not Bronson, for a change. I’m digging his four innings so far. I hope he keeps it up.
What the hell just happened?? All I did was put my kid in bed and suddenly the Reds are up 3-1!
Back to the GameDay.
Wow, the runs didn’t even score on a homer. Go Reds!
So, LaRussa’s a jackass, huh?
”There isn’t anything in baseball that I object to more,” La Russa said following Tuesday’s game. “Whether we hit them or they hit them, I’ve said it for almost as long as I’ve been managing: I’d suspend a guy two weeks to start with. A month the next time and then a season, if a Major League pitcher doesn’t have better command than that.”
What a load of crap. If you did that, you’d have no eligible pitchers left after a series against Biggio.
Would he also have suspended Hopper for running into Freel in the outfield? This is a sport, not a desk job. People get hit. They’re grown-ups and don’t cry about it.
My question would be about the amount of command you need to fall asleep in your car at a red light while drunkenly driving home during spring training.
Damn, the Cards bring in two more while I was bitching about LaRussa. 4-3 Reds.
I hope that the media remembers this the next time a Cardinals pitcher hits someone. I’d love to see Carpenter come off the DL and immediately be suspended for a couple weeks if he didn’t have his control back immediately.
Second double of the night for Castro. When Castro starts hitting, only good things can follow.
I can understand LaRussa being upset, since his player was hit in the head. But jeez, it’s not like Harang meant to do it. There was no reason he would want to, even if he was the type, which he isn’t.
Ack. Get Arroyo out of there.
Except it’s Stanton warming.
Since the Reds have scored all of their runs while I’ve been out of the room, I went and took a shower hoping they’d play add-on. I guess not, since they’re now tied 4-4.
Stanton? Really Narron? Do you even know who’s in the bullpen?
WHAT?? They didn’t walk Pujols with Arroyo at the end of his tether? I think that Narron needs to have his head examined. He must have suffered a contusion that no one knows about.
So, Stanton was just out there to give a base hit to Edmonds, and now Coffey is getting his turn. And again I wonder why I stay up for this. At least Bellyscratcher is enjoying herself at the game.
Narron and Krivsky are both idiots…
Krivsky’s bullpen has cost us a dozen games
Narrons ineptitude managing cost us 6 or so more.
Did anyone else just get a chill when they heard that Ryan Franklin was coming in? But it’s a good thing!
add franklin to the list of pitchers who only suck when they play for us….
I wanted McBeth. He’s a closer in AAA, fer crissakes. He won’t wilt under the pressure of a tie or 1-run lead.
Besides, he’s probably going back to Louisville when Homer comes up, and it would just be too silly for him to have two callups without playing.
8-o
McBeth is finally pitching??
He doesn’t look Scottish.
here you go BubbaFan
Hey, McBeth was good! So, will he play in each of the next twelve games, or will he be sent down tomorrow? The suspense is too much to bear!
Yay. And he didn’t suck!
