You’ll Have to Go Through Us First

So, the Cardinals think they're going to make a run of it, huh? Well we'll just see about that. If they want to get to the top of the division, they're going to have to get through us first. Not in a standings kind of a way, of course. The Cards already have six games on our boys. But we can screw 'em up trying to get those three games that the Brewers and Cubs have on them. You'll see!

But even if we don't, the Cubs got 'em beat. We're used to it in Cincinnati, but it must be a fun new experience for Card fans to be looking up at the Cubs. Fun fun fun.

Go Reds!

  1. I’ll tell Ankiel to give whatever fielding issues he picked up tonight back to Dunn 🙂

Why is Thom saying that “for his money” he’d definitely want Cantu on the team next year? Does he mean “as opposed to Juan Castro” or does he mean “as opposed to Joey Votto”?

BubbaFan, are you still out there? You’ve always got the dirt on what the heck these guys are talking about.

There’s still plenty of hope here for the Cardinals. The Reds have a bad habit or scoring early and then stopping, as if the offense thought they’d already done their part and went home.

  4. I have to confess, there has been a lack of stuff happening recently in this game. I’m starting to not pay very much attention. Plus, we’re still doing invitations.

My guess is he means “platooned with Joey Votto.” If he’s even thinking that far.

Though it wouldn’t surprise me if Votto or someone else is traded in the off-season. The Reds need pitching, and they have so many lefties it’s not even funny. They also need a righty power bat, and Cantu can be that. Bruce and Votto are both lefties, not to mention Hamilton.

I know baseball folk put a lot of stock into the “lefty-righty” thing. I just can’t get past the “best 9 players” thing.

I wouldn’t object to a trade, though, IF Krivsky can come home with something good for a change.

  7. I think I know Joey Votto. He took the cannolis, right?

  8. Red Hot Mama says:

Still working on the invitations, huh? The hand-written-ness is nice. Plus, I bet you’re getting a lovely buzz from the silver ink.

  9. Oh, lemme tell you about the fumes! Whooo boy.

I’ve learned so much about etiquette it’s ridiculous.

  10. BubbaFan says:

I think most managers play lefty-righty matchup too much.

But in the Reds’ case, their left-handed hitters really don’t hit lefties very well. And they have so many of them.

  11. Red Hot Mama says:

Joey Votto took the cannolis? Sounds like something Ray King would do.

  12. Danny and Al are right, there are a ton of broken bats this game.

  13. Did I see correctly, King is back in the NL Central? Or was I dreaming that?

  14. Red Hot Mama says:

The Reds just played him…was it the Mets? Jon’s looking it up.

  15. Red Hot Mama says:

No, it was the Brewers. You were right!

  16. Awesome, I can’t wait to face him. Or maybe we did already and I was drunk.

  17. Red Hot Mama says:

I think that Chris and Thom just said that the Cardinals bullpen has only blown 8 saves this season. Is that really possible?

  18. Izzy’s been outstanding, but there really haven’t been a whole lot of chances compared to years past.

  19. Red Hot Mama says:

    Still. Damn.

Hey, good game tonight. Well, not really, but there were moments.

Good luck with those invites. 🙂

  20. Oh, I’m done with mine 😉 But thanks. See you tomorrow!
