The eventual 7-1 final was sufficiently depressing that I trust you will forgive me, Amanda, if I do not lament the lost opportunity to help set a new record for the most lopsided shutout score in MLB history.
As I write this, the Cubs have beaten the Cardinals for us again – for the second day in a row – and the Reds appear to be determined to take advantage of the opportunity to regain first place in the division. They’re off to a flying start with a 6-0 lead over the Disastros in the middle of the fifth inning. It is nice after all these years to finally see a Reds team smacking Oswalt around like a pinata.
All they have to do now is not blow a six-run lead, and what are the chances of that happening? Oh, wait…
