Ex-Reds Dropping Like Flies?

This week in baseball: Bret Boone and Gabe White announced retirement. Jose Guillen hurt his wrist. Pokey Reese inexplicably disappeared from the Marlins' ST camp. What's gotten into these former Reds these days?

Is Gabe White nuts? He's lefthanded and he's only 34, he should have at least six more years ahead of him. Retiring? I think it's just a plot to get the Twins to release him so Bowden can sign him in D.C.

And this is only the first week of games.

April cannot come soon enough…

They’re all sad they’re no longer on the Reds.

Too bad Guillen’s the only one I’d welcome back…

I hadn’t heard about Pokey Reese. That’s pretty scary. According to this story on ESPN, he’s checked in with the team via his agent, but has still given no indication where he is, what he’s doing, or whether he’ll ever be back.

And furthermore, the Marlins have now terminated Pokey’s contract.

Actually, now that I think about the possibility, it isn’t so funny. 🙁

Well, this makes two teams that Pokey Reese has quit on, the Reds and Florida. Although he’s reached a new depth of unprofessionalism with this latest stunt.

One of the reasons Bowden is so disliked by many Reds followers is his tendency to become obsessed with certain players. This spring he’s already signed a handful of players in DC that tends to indicate he hasn’t changed a bit: Ruben Mateo. Kenny Kelly. Michael Tucker. Ramon Ortiz. Then there’s the most obvious example – Brandon Larson. Now that I’ve typed that name, excuse me while I go wash my keyboard out with lye soap.

Eh, in all fairness, Bowden had nothing to do with Ramon Ortiz coming to Cincinnati.
