Wise is Down

Dewayne Wise is down and out of the game after a baserunning mishap at second. He had to be helped off the field and it looked like his left knee was swelling, though he was able to put some weight on it.

UPDATE: David Ross told me after the game that he thought that Wise had a “real bad” ankle sprain. I double-checked that it wasn't his knee, but Ross was confident that it was his ankle.

I guess that makes sense; it's pretty hard to clutch your ankle while you're lying on the ground so it could look like a knee injury. Plus, he hurt it when tripping over second base (or perhaps when tripped by the second baseman; it was hard to tell).

Not that Ross is an official medical source or anything, but a bad ankle sprain would have you out, what, like six weeks right? Might Chris Denorfia find himself back with the club sooner than we imagined?

I hope this isn’t the start of a Sports Illustrated cover-like curse. Players might beg you not to feature their ass in the “Guess Who?” game.

Welcome to Quinton McCracken and Jacob Cruz coming off the bench.

A real bad ankle sprain…as opposed to a real good one?
