Obviously, I am a HUGE baseball fan. I am also the son of a West Virginia coal miner and I value people that work hard at what they do. I like players and teams that “grind it out” and play the game “the right way”. Primarily I am a Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds fan. As a Pirate fan, I long for the Leyland days and have begun to develop a love for the Detroit Tigers since the beginning of the 2006 season. I am a student and teacher of Geography and I am actively studying St. Louis Cardinals.
I'm not sure that “Geography Teacher” counts as a blue-collar profession, but it does seem to allow for easier readability than if an actual coal miner or something were writing it.
RHM, this West Virginian knows a lot of intelligent coal miners, and doesn’t appreciate the slight.
It was just an example, Shawn. There was no offense intended to any particular coal miner.
Ah, but if I had said, “This website would be better if a man were writing it,” you might have taken offense, because I was slighting women.
Clear writing has nothing to do with intelligence; it is a skill commonly taught in academia and not in blue collar professions.
On the other hand, there’s no particular reason that I can think of that Red Hot Mama would be better written by a man. However, I would not take offense if you were to say such a thing, because I don’t care a whit about your or anyone’s opinion of men’s writing versus women’s writing.
