Standings–Just In Time

The Reds picked a great series to win three-out-of-four, since taking the series from the first place team not only brings them to just a scant 12.5 games back, but also pulls them out of last place. Thank you, Javy!

In honor of this achievement (no really, it's not a coincidence), the Crack Technical Staff has added division standings to the right-hand sidebar.

So take in the not-last-placeness of it all. The Cubs are next; maybe it will last.

P.S. If you haven't made it into the comments from yesterday, you should check out HMZ's description of Javy's other pinch-running performance and BubbaFan telling us that Dumatrait is coming up.

While I certainly have no problem with the “Love Javy” theme going on here, I must install my own admiration for the most under-appreciated player on this team and that is SCOTT HATTEBERG who has literally carried this otherwise sorry team for the entire season with his clutch hitting. Ok, yes I know there have been other heroes such as Brandon Phillips, Ken Griffey jr. and even strikeout prone Adam Dunn. heck even David Ross has been blasting big home runs in the #8 spot and if Gonzalez hadn’t disappeared I’d mention him too. But it is Hatteberg who time and time again delivers in the clutch when the hit matters most. The guy has ice water in his veins, and every damn blogger out there wants him dumped for scraps so we can bring up Joey Votto who I just know is gonna struggle mightility at the major league level. Here we are only 12.5 games back and the entire blogging community has already conceded the season. We aren’t going to get any return on Hatteberg, he is 37 yrs old and a platoon player at a position where there is a surplus of quality hitters. Anyone suggesting he get traded is quitting on this season. This dude has huge value as our team leader and best and most reliable hitter.

Saarloos was outrighted to Louisville, and Santos has been called up.

I’m not sure that Dumatrait will be called up. He was removed from teh game at the request of the Reds last night, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s being called up. It could mean he’ll be traded.
