What Do These 3 Men Have in Common?

What do these three men have in common? If you said that all three suck, I understand. You’re probably a Cubs fan who remembers the time that Corey Patterson, Jerry Hairston, Jr., and Neifi Perez spent with the Cubs.

But no, that’s not the answer I was looking for. I’m afraid that what these three players have in common is the love and adoration of one Dusty Baker, current manager of the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds signed Hairston and Patterson to minor league contracts, no doubt due to their shortage of young, talented infielders and outfielders. Patterson will contend for the starting center field position, which is great, because the Reds have no one up and coming to take that spot.

It’s hard not to laugh, so don’t hold it in. It wouldn’t surprise me if this is just the warm-up, though. I mean, Neifi Perez is available.

Hey, it could be worse. We could be getting a bunch of fat male cheerleaders.

trust me you’d rather see – heck, i’d bet even RHM and i’d rather see a bunch of fat male cheerleaders than a bunch of really lousy Veteran Infielders that dusty-poo can’t get enough of instead of rookie (gag, shudder) jay bruce.

Still reserving judgement… we probably shoulda saw this one coming with the base-clogging comments a couple weeks ago.

If they sign Neifi Perez I will not be pleased.

You’re right: Baker was foreshadowing bringing on guys who couldn’t get on base.

Lisa! Welcome to RHM. It’s pleasure to have such a respected female blogger joining the conversation.

Apparently, Nick Kendall, the Reds writer at Bugs and Cranks, had the same thought about Neifi that I did. He also throws Kenny Lofton into the mix and makes fun of what Dusty Baker said about the signings, so you gotta love that.
