Game 2: Reds versus Cubs
Finally, the off-day is over and baseball is back. It's even in the evening time, so I can watch on t.v. Too bad the t.v.'s in a different room from the computer these days.
For the Cubs:
Soriano - CF
Jones - RF
Lee - 1B
Ramirez - 3B
Floyd - LF
Barrett - C
DeRosa - 2B
Izturis - SS
Lilly - P
And Now…Your Cincinnati Reds
Ryan Freel - CF
Brandon Phillips - 2B
Adam Dunn - LF
Edwin Encarnación - 3B
Ken Griffey, Jr. - RF
Jeff Conine - 1B
Alex Gonzalez - SS
David Ross - C
Bronson Arroyo - P
Dunn's out of the two-hole, apparently because Griffey's dropped to fifth. Gotta love Narron's inability to leave the line-up alone!
Hey, today's a special day: Red Hot Mama is 2! More on that later, but let's win one for the birthday girl, fellas.
Go Reds!
Well, not ONLY because Jr.’s batting fifth; Hatte’s out of the line-up as well. But moving Jr down is noteworthy, I think.
I think the lineup is tweaked for Lilly (former Yankee). He’s tough on lefties.
good to see a RHM Gamethread !
I’m sure you’re right, BF. Last season, though, it would have been Griffey batting third and Dunn fifth. These are the trivial thoughts that flit through my mind in the first few games of the season.
As for “tweaking” the line-up, this is Narron’s SOP.
Redsfan68 – Glad to be here! The CTS gave me the laptop for a while, so I can even comment!
2 nice plays by Conine !
Second strike-out for Arroyo. This is a great camera angle. I’ve missed baseball on t.v.
Are you guys seeing Brantley and Thom? Brantley’s less annoying on t.v. than on th radio, but I still prefer Chris Welsh.
Did he just say “ba-da-bing, ba-da-bang”?
All right! Griffey walks and we’ve got a runner!
what exactly was Conine tryind to do with that pitch.
Well, they stranded him, but at least it wasn’t 3 up, 3 down.
need to get Bronson up !
mlb.tv is about 30 seconds behind it seems, sorry for late posts.
He got his homers against the Cubs last year, you know!
Bronson looks real good, fyi. Jeff Brantley is obsessed with the fact that he didn’t throw many curveballs in spring training games but keeps throwing them in this game.
Brantley just referred to a pitch as being “right at [the batter’s] nugget”. What does that mean?
Five strike-outs now. He’s going to take the title from Harang.
alas, I have the sound down, as my 6 year old is trying to fall asleep next to me and my laptop. So I can’t hear the verbal stylings of one Mr. Brantley.
Never heard of a batter’s nugget before. You sure he didn’t say ‘mullet’ ? 🙂
Since 1960, Arroyo is one of only three pitchers to make their major league debut as a pinch hitter. Huh.
 mullet. Heh.
was that a World Series ring on Jeff Brantley’s finger?
Cy Lilly. If this is how he pitches when he’s got the flu, he should get the flu more often.
ouch 2-0 cubs
What happened? Why is everyone suddenly cussing out Ross?
let a pop up bunt drop, should have been a double play.
Now its snowing !
Did he get an error?
no, fielders choice. Out at second, but the run scores
7*K for Bronson
I just played ‘whack a cub’. Hopefully it will get us going. Score was 91 after a very slow start.
stolen base for freel !
Dunn almost hits it out !
Now 2-1
@#$^%&*$@#$
Dang it, that play at the plate was pretty darn important, but now even doing that right would have saved the Reds.
Burton’s not looking so hot, eh?
Sorry to go silent on you there, guys. The CTS needed the computer for a while.
you haven’t missed much
And to think, Santos was the one who almost didn’t make the team.
C’mon Dunner!
Damn. At least he wasn’t caught looking (?)
Here’s a question for you: why did Dumpster suck for the Reds? Was he just saving himself to be overpaid by the Cubs?
Ouch. A night where the balls just aren’t carrying hurts my Redlegs.
I think it’s the Rule of Rejected Pitchers. Kinda like Jeff Weaver sucked like a black hole when he was a Yankee, but turned into an ace for the Cards.
Sidney Ponson is probably going to be a Cy Young winner this year.
Sigh. They should have pulled Arroyo earlier. The double to Sori and the pitch count were a warning. Those two runs in the 8th were the back-breaker.
If Sidney Ponson is the Cy Young winner this year, I’ll eat a Reds program.
