Bring on the Cards
By Amanda
I've taken a catnap ahead of time and carried-out Chinese food so I wouldn't have to waste my precious energy cooking tonight, so I'm hopeful that I'll stay awake through the whole game tonight. It will help me if we can avoid the rain delay this time.
C. Trent has the line-ups:
Redlegs
Josh Hamilton CF
Brandon Phillips 2B
Adam Dunn LF
Ken Griffey Jr. RF
Edwin Encarnación 3B
Scott Hatteberg 1B
Alex Gonzales SS
David Ross C
Bronson Arroyo P
Redbirds
David Eckstein SS
Chris Duncan LF
Albert Pujols 1B
Scott Rolen 3B
Jim Edmonds CF
Preston Wilson RF
Adam Kennedy 2B
Yadier Molina C
Braden Looper P
Can anyone explain to me why Josh Hamilton leads off this line-up? I realize that there are not a lot of other choices, but Hatteberg or Phillips seem like better choices than Hamilton.
Ross got a couple hits last night after dipping below the semi-Mendoza line (.100) briefly. Here's hoping he's moving back up. It would be hard for him to move much further down.

Line-up
worked yesterday, so I’m actually glad Narron left it alone….
April 25th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
We got Chinese take out too!
If this game starts to really suck, I’m gonna switch over to Mythbusters
April 25th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Ooh, what are the Mythbusters talking about today?
April 25th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
first pitch in is a strike that looked outside to me. C’mon, Hamilton, let’s waste a homer!
April 25th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Proxy says: “Jamie examines the slump; interviews Mark Grace. Meanwhile, Adam performs a series of tests to figure out why the Cardinals can’t hit water if they fell out of a boat.”
LaRussa has Buster the ballistic dummy in right.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
What kind of Chinese you eating, Ms. Scratcher? Jonny had the General Tso’s, I was all over the shrimp in lobster sauce.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Thank goodness for our ace…Bradon (gulp) Looper.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Oh, and the kid is rocking the baloney and American cheese Lunchable. He also ate our fortune cookies.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
I almost got shrimp in lobster sauce!!
I got chicken with mushrooms, Steve had mongolian beef.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
I’m going to try to keep track of how many slow rollers the Cardinals hit. That’s one.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Eerie. We’re on a wavelength.
So Arroyo tonight. At a game later this season they’re giving away a hat in his honor with blond wig built in.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
Does the hat come with a cheesy acoustic guitar album?
April 25th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
No, you’ve got to buy the cheese acoustic guitar album.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
ACK! Did he hurt himself??
April 25th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Oh well.
The Cardinals got the first hit. That’s odd.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Of course he did!
April 25th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Dang, are the Reds already done batting?
April 25th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
That’s two.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Two and a half…that wasn’t very slow, but Molina is.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Gonzo’s play last night was on Baseball Tonight. It was the only coverage of the Reds that I caught on the whole show.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Oh, I hear ya. Sometimes it seems like the only time the Cardinals are shown is serving up home runs in montages.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
Look at the mad hopz on Looper!
April 25th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Oh, Dunn is ALWAYS in montages of pitchers striking people out. I think Dunn shouldn’t even count as one of a pitcher’s Ks. That’s easier than striking out the pitcher.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Keisler is going tomorrow? But he didn’t need to lose any weight…
April 25th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Um, our announcers are going to ask for Hamilton’s phone number.
Helluva play.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Keisler is a reclamation project, though.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
He’s married.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Three and a half.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Does Albert usually have a shaved head or did he come down with lice this season?
April 25th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
It looks pretty bad outside…there might be a delay coming soon.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
It’s usually shaved.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
So why was Pujols removed from the game yesterday? He seems all right tonight.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
Man this game is going quick. The lack of scoring does that, I reckon.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
According to Tony after the game, Albert’s knee was “barking.”
This game is quick. Maybe they’ve seen the forecast.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Hey BubbaFan. I heard he tweaked his knee. Convenient that it was already a blowout.
I’d like to give the pitchers the credit for this double-shutout, but I have to think it’s the battle of in the ineffective offenses. Even though the Reds scored 10 yesterday.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
The Cardinals can only score on Sundays. Really.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
WTF is a lead?
April 25th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Maybe they should try praying more.
Hey! You said they could only do that on Sundays!
April 25th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Sunday came early this week.
(BTW, how’s your kitty?)
April 25th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
I liked the fan who touched the ball. He looked like he was ready to take himself out back and flog himself, but he probably just prevented his runner from being tagged out at third or something.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Kitty’s doing better, but isn’t 100% yet
There was much cursing at that fan at my house.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Why must our fielders play two steps from the wall? There’s time to run back, fellas.
Yeah, how’s the feline? Mine’s a pain in the neck.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
I could go on and on about the kitty – gotta wait for some tests so I’m all freaked out. But he’ll probably have nothing wrong with him.
If only Looper had more than 3 career hits….
April 25th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Poor kitty.
Kind of a rough inning for Arroyo there.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
That is freaking adorable!
April 25th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
Awww!
I’m sorry to hear about the tests. I bet the kitty didn’t like getting those done either.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
Yeah, he wasn’t happy.
Cy Looper.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Nice catch. He must have been following the trails.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Maybe you shouldn’t play so deep, Hamilton.
I thought that was trouble off the bat. I’m one of those people!
April 25th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Four and a half.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
They don’t position themselves…do they? They signal from the dugout and tell them where to stand.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
I knew that was going to happen.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Well, you can play deep [em]that[/em] way…
April 25th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
The Hammer does it again. Unbelievable.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Ah, Jimmy.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
Dunn’s sleepy.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Not sleepy, just laid back. He’s a mellow dude.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
It’s hard to be smacky when both team’s kinda suck, but we gotta turn it up.
Someone should tell Edmonds that it’s eye[em]black[/em] not eye[em]liner[/em].
April 25th, 2007 at 9:33 pm
Six and a half.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Yeah, we should. But it’s a pitchers’ duel and there’s not much you can say about those.
I never thought Looper would be in a pitchers’ duel. Ever.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
And it’s not even against the Astros. The Reds can, traditionally, hit a little.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Looper looks like a muppet in his Gameday pic.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
You call that a World Series MVP? Looks like a Troll Doll.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
Looper nearly took that one up the nose.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
Go Agon. Rub some of that off on Ross.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Proxy: “Oh yeah? At least Fredbird doesn’t have elephantitis of the cranium!”
April 25th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Maybe not, but Proxy does.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Hey now!
Your guys only got one run off Braden Looper.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Farewell, Looper. They were a good 7 innings.
There’s so little to say that George and Chris went quiet for a while there.
How’s Carp doing?
April 25th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
Seven and a half slow rollers now?
April 25th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
Carp said he feels good after throwing yesterday.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
Farney!
April 25th, 2007 at 9:54 pm
We’re rather large of head around our house as well.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
Looper’s your ace, isn’t he? Improbably so, but he’s pitched really well this season.
Gotta give the Cards credit for that. They have a knack for making silk purses out of sow’s ears, pitching-wise. Jeff Weaver was nothing but a big loser for us. I wonder what they’d have done with Pavano, if the rumored trade had gone through?
April 25th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Rolen is our emergency pitcher…who’s the Reds’?
April 25th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Yeah, BubbaFan, Dave Duncan is the Pitcher Whisperer. I don’t know what it is, but he’s got a way to fix people.
April 25th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
OK, I’m as glad to see Freel as anyone but WHERE IS JAVY??
April 25th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
Freel desperately wants to pitch, and I imagine he’ll get to someday. Kearns used to have some pitching skills, but clearly he’s not an option anymore.
If HMZ were here, I’m sure he’d hook us up with the details of who had what minor league pitching experience in the line-up.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
My computer has just slowed waaaaay down. So I’ll be a bit behind the times.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
My level of awakeness has gone way down, so I’ll be a bit behind myself. I’m asking the CTS to keep me awake as best he can.
:doze:
April 25th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
*&%$^#
April 25th, 2007 at 10:12 pm
Whoooo hooooo!!!!!
We were tending to kitty so we missed how Eckstein and Duncan got on, but I saw Pujols’ hit.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:14 pm
Taguchi is the pinch hitter? for Edmonds?
I must be more tired than I thought.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
Ah, Coutlangus: always done too soon…
April 25th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
I hate Preston Wilson.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
ARGH! Demmit, Gonzo.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
OMG how many freaking outs do the Cards get in this freaking inning??
April 25th, 2007 at 10:24 pm
Depends on the number of IBBs the Reds give out, I guess.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
That was disgusting. I hope that tending to the kitty wasn’t that gross.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Naw, just trying to get him to drink some water.
I love relievers batting. It’s so hilarious.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
Stupid Taguchi.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
come on, Hatte. yay!
I think it’s funny (though sad) that Arroyo’s our hard-luck pitcher this season.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Well, this game went to heck awfully quick.
Another quality start down the crapper.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
Man, if it weren’t for So, Randy would still have a 0.00 ERA. And they take him out.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
yes! I love to see Eck miss!
And it’s JAVY!
April 25th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
Oh. God.
What is this?
April 25th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
Nice play Albert!!
That was the second game they’ve won at home this year.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:41 pm
I’m thinking they were due.
Bummer, but a least I can go to bed. I’m exhausted.
Thanks for coming by, guys. I’ll try to sneak in some comments tomorrow during work.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:42 pm
Me, too. I might be pretty busy but I’ll pop by.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
What a heartbreaker.
Another great night for A-Gon, but he can’t do it on his own.
April 25th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
