Flopez at the Bat

The Cardinals are 12.5 games back?? Will they never learn to do a proper late-series collapse? You’d think they’d know, watching the Cubs as much as they have.

Holy Shit! Brewers Fire Yost!

Ned Yost and his impossible leg are no moreNow that’s a way to light a fire under under-performing players as they head into the end of the season. Milwaukee has gotten rid of Ned Yost, often referred to ignorantly as the worst manager in the majors (see: Baker, Dusty).

I know the Brewers have dived into the crapper for the second straight September, but I’m surprised to see this move. We’ll see if the surprising move helps right the sinking ship. Honestly, I doubt it will hurt.

I’m hoping the Reds will take some hints.

Dammit, Harang, why don’t YOU do that??

Cubs’ ace Carlos Zambrano has just completed the first complete game no-hitter since…well, not that long ago when you consider the team we’re talking about. Still, pretty cool.

Women in Baseball: Chartese Burnett

The Women in Baseball series of interviews at We’ve Got Heart continues with this conversation with Chartese Burnett, Vice President of Communications for the Washington Nationals.

In addition to the regular strains of being a working mother and a woman in baseball, Burnett has faced an additional battle against Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Go read her full story, and if you’re moved to do so, check out the Light the Night walk, coming to a city near you, that benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Check out Burnett’s tale.

I Don’t Like Ike

Residual winds from hurricane Ike knocked out our power for three hours this afternoon. According to the automated response we got when calling the power company, some 150,000 of their customers were without power, and they expected it to take 3-4 days for it to come back. So, frankly, I’m feeling pretty fortunate to be posting this right now.

Listening to the Reds’ game on 700 WLW (the lack of any other electronics working in our house allowed us to actually get the station without interference), they said that over 600,000 people are in the dark in the Cincinnati-land area.

Meanwhile, the Reds outlasted the Diamondbacks tonight to win the game and the series. The t.v. came back on just in time to see Patterson’s home run.
