Lohse Has a Swagger

Dude, did you see Kyle Lohse strut his way home when Scott Hatteberg hit that home run? And now he's being all demonstrative with his irritation over a called ball.

This guy is a dramatic change of pace. So long as he doesn't go all Ryan Wagner on us, I can get behind it.

3 quality starts out of three……

3-3, 2 runs, and an RBI tonight.

Oh, and those 6 shutout innings so far.

Boo-yah! Hell of a night for the new guy.

I love that Griffey left the game 0-for-0 with three walks. I don’t think walking Griff accomplished what they were hoping for.

Ooh, Lohse nearly had his fourth hit tonight. Good contact.

  4. Red Hot Mama says:

George Grande just pointed out that Kyle Lohse has as many hits tonight as the Astros.

That really puts it into perspective, if you ask me.

I’m not a complete stranger to the game thread, my friend. Nor am I a complete stranger to sitting alone, being the only one posting on them, which is why you don’t see them every day.

    I completely understand…..

but when you do have a thread, Its more fun than the other sites.

    Less riff raff

  9. I definitely heart Kyly Lohse. I heart everyone wearing a Reds uniform, though. Lohse gets some extra hearts today.

Hey Redsfan68 — who you calling “not riff raff”?? ;P

    WHTR — Heck yeah.

Tuesday night I was at a stag party for a guy I work with who’s getting married this weekend. The party was at a neighborhood bar in Niagara Falls where the groom-to-be used to work. Just as the drawing for the 50/50 raffle was being held, I caught a score out of the corner of my eye as it crawled across the bottom of the TV screen:

    CINCINNATI 14, HOUSTON 0.

I thought it odd that the NFL would have exhibition games on a Tuesday. Then I remembered the Bengals just played the Bills here in Buffalo on Saturday. It was unlikely they’d be playing another game already on Tuesday. Especially since Houston no longer has an NFL team!

At this point that it dawned on me that 14-0 wasn’t a Bengals score after all, it was the score by which the Reds had spanked the Astros. As I watched more scores crawl across the bottom of the screen, I thought back to the number of times the Astros handed the Reds their butts in similar fashion last year. Finally the Reds have that monkey off their backs. Then I saw that the Cardinals had managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in their game against the Mets besides. “YEAH!” yelled Yours Truly, drawing several quizzical looks from some of the other guys.

In response to the “WTF?” expressions on their faces, I explained. “Here come the Reds, baby, just one game out of first.”

“Doesn’t matter,” one guy said, speaking for a barful of Yankees fans. “The Yankees are going to win it all anyway.”

“As odd as it is to have to say this about a team that has over $150 million worth of payroll tied up just in their pitching staff, but if the Yankees had any pitching I’d agree with you.” Then I dropped the nuke:

“Hey, how’s Pavano doing this year?”

One guy started to mumble something about Pavano being almost ready to come back, but by then I’d already picked up my empty glass and headed off to the keg for a refill. For one night at least, all was right in the world of baseball. The Reds had demolished the rival Astros, gained a game on the Cardinals, maintained their lead in the wild-card race, and apparently found a servicable #4 starter in Kyle Lohse. And when’s the last time the Reds had a pitcher allow only four hits while collecting three himself at the plate? So, I wasn’t sticking around to talk about the Yankees. Cinci 14, Houston 0? Hey, how can they call themselves contenders when they couldn’t even get that field goal before the end of the half?

    GO REDS!

    That’s a made up story.

    Bad evaluation.

    Again.
