Brewers 2, Marlins 6: Freefallin’

The Brewers (16-17) lost to the Marlins (19-14) again. It makes 5 in a row for a floundering Milwaukee team and gives them a losing record.

The culprits were Dave Bush (0-4), who allowed as many runs he pitched, and the offense. Rickie Weeks provided every bit of the scoring with a two-run home run in the 6th. The offense for the team has been nonexistent lately. It’s not a matter of getting the big hit, either. The team left only 6 on base over the game’s course. Nothing is clicking right now.

The Brewers try to right things tonight at 7:10pm EDT when they send Carlos Villanueva against Mark Hendrickson.

Brewers lost again today (Thurs. 5/8), 7-2 to Florida. Former Red Jorge Cantu homered for the Marlins.

Cardinals got blasted 9-3 by the Rockies. Kyle Lohse got lit up again, seven runs in four innings, and has now allowed 15 runs in 10 innings during May. Signing Lohse looks like another a great move by the Cardinals’ new stathead front office.

The Pirates beat the Giants, 5-4.

    Speaking of the Pirates…

    When pitching prospects attack

Pittsburgh released pitching prospect Olivo Astacio…because he attacked a teammate with a bat.

And from the minors…Andy Phillips hit a grand slam today for Louisville. It was the third day in a row that he homered. He also has an 11-game hitting streak. Manager Rick Sweet said last week that Andy was about to bust out, and it looks like he was right.

And Ray Olmedo hit a home run, his second of the season, for the Clippers.

I’m actually sort of surprised that the Pirates would release him just for a little battery, what with the price of pitching these days.
