Back to the Minors

image
Wily Mo Peña watches a pitch go by. Unfortunately, he did a lot of that last night.

Though I've lived within two hours of Victory Field for over fifteen years, last night was the first Indianapolis Indians' game I've ever attended. In my defense, they're now a Pittsburgh affiliate. How am I supposed to get behind that?

In any event, it was a good time. Of course we saw Wily Mo who, by the way, is approximately twice the size of any other individual person on the team, but we also got to see some other familiar faces: William Bergolla, Edwin Encarnación, Dane Sardinha, Pedro Swann, and Kenny Kelly.

We also got to see Allan Simpson pitch. It's true: he does throw very fast, indeed. It's also true: he's a little bit wild. But it's not like he threw anything 10 rows into the stands. It was interesting: every time we looked up he seemed to be throwing around 95, which was a new experience for me as a spectator.

The woman two rows in front of us was wearing a Dernell Stenson pendant, and when a guy in her row asked her about it, she said that he was the father of her little boy. That was sort of poignant, but also sort of cool.

All-in-all, a good time. Winter's already asking to go back.

Victory is a nice place. I was there a couple years ago.

Yeah, I can’t complain except we had to walk forever for parking.

I had a physics/Reds joke ready for my game wrap today, but it would only have worked if they’d won. Be on the look out for it tomorrow: I’m counting on you to laugh, or at least groan.

Have to say i love your writing style. I also love your passion and angst you suffer as a reds fan. God do i know how you feel.

Thanks, Dan. I’m glad to know that my angst isn’t all for naught.

We parked at TGI Friday’s, ate lunch there, and left the cars and went to the game. Perhaps not copacetic, but the car was still there when I went back.

Did the "girl" that was wearing the Dernell Stenson pendant also tell you she is one of the main reasons he is not with us anymore?? I didn’t think so…believe me there is nothing "cool" about her. Because if her name is Jennifer, all his friends KNOW she had something to do with it!! Do us all a favor…stop lying, do the right thing, and don’t mention his name ever again. His friends know the truth!!

    Hi, truefriend24,
I didn’t talk to the woman, only overheard her talking to someone else, so I don’t know her name. But either way, that’s a truly horrifying and sickening thought.

Whatever her name, she just reminded us of Dernell that day at the ball park. I know that a lot of people like to remember him, so I thought it was a good thing to mention here.

I don’t want you to get the wrong idea….I wasn’t telling you not to talk about Dernell anymore, I meant the "girl" that was there. There is just too many coincidences to this mystery that point in one direction, but we will soon find out with the trial coming up in Sept. Please talk about Dernell and how wonderful he was, that is what he deserves. God knows he didn’t deserve any of this or anyone stalking him, for that matter! Sorry I’m bitter, but he was very special to me and even almost 2 years later, I still can’t believe I’ll never talk to him again. Thanks for listening.
