Reds Vs. Indians 3/9

Woo-hoo! My turn to start a game thread. Sweet.

The lineups, as always, provided by C.

Indians
Sizemore CF
Francisco RF
Dellucci LF
Garko 1B
Blake 3B
Shoppach C
Rouse 2B
Rivas SS
Adam Miller P

Reds
Freel CF
Hamilton RF
Encarnacion 3B
Dunn LF
Conine 1B
Gonzalez SS
Ross C
Castro
Arroyo P

Brandon Phillips was originally going to be playing 2b, but was a late scratch. Even so, this is a lineup we might have to get used to during the season this year.

Called strike 3. Sipp ends up striking out the side.
    Well, they made it interesting…

    Tomorrow another 1:05 EST start.

  2. Red Hot Mama says:

Oh well. At least we know our boys are being put to the test this spring training.

  3. BubbaFan says:

Well, Homer put them in a hole it was pretty hard to climb out of.

Incidentally this thread should say Reds vs Indians. it was the battle for Ohio in Florida. I think C-Trent threw Zeldink by calling the Indians “Team with a logo that should be banned” or something like that.

  5. Red Hot Mama says:

Yeah, I’ll be interested to hear what he has to say after the game.

  6. Red Hot Mama says:

He probably just copied a different headline. I’ll go fix it.

  7. Redsfan68 says:

I hate the indians as much as Jeremiah Johnson does.

  8. BubbaFan says:

He called them “the team with the offensive logo.” I have a friend who is a diehard Indians fan, but she refused to buy anything with Chief Wahoo on it. She buys a ton of other Indians stuff, though. (If I had her money I’d burn mine.)

  9. BubbaFan says:

Trent has already talked to Homer. He says Homer took it in stride. Said he just had a bad outing, which can happen to anyone. He still thinks he can make the team.

  10. Red Hot Mama says:

The complaint about the Indians logo goes over my head. I don’t understand why referencing a people is automatically offensive.

But then again, I don’t understand why you’d pop an IV in someone who can drink their own Gatorade, so clearly I’m just out of the loop.

  11. Red Hot Mama says:

Redsfan68 – I’ll have you know that I had to look up “Jeremiah Johnson.” I’m not much of a movie buff.

BubbaFan – Homer’s dreaming. I hope he won’t be too disappointed to start the season in AAA.

  12. BubbaFan says:

I think it’s not just referencing a people, but the caricature. Red face, buck teeth, etc. I’m not wild about the logo, either.

I suppose you could say the Fighting Irish is just as bad. The difference I see is that Notre Dame took that name because they were Irish. If it’s a caricature, they were caricaturing themselves. Kinda like you can tell ethnic jokes about your own ethnic group, but it if tell them about someone else’s, people often get offended.

  13. Red Hot Mama says:

I wonder whether people would be bothered less if the logo were an actual photo of an Amerindian. That would be harder to put on a hat, I imagine.

  14. Redsfan68 says:

    Janish…

three called strikes right down the middle

won’t make many friends that way, especially with 3 ducks on the pond

  15. Red Hot Mama says:

Thanks, everyone, for your contributions to the game thread. I look forward to talking about a win tomorrow!

I think there would be less objection to a more realistic image. The Redskins get flack for the name, which many Native Americans find offensive, but not much for their logo. And the Braves don’t get nearly as many complaints as the Indians.

Yeah, this losing streak has got to stop.

And oh, Woe, Woe! The Nats have cut our old pal Tony Womack. Maybe because he went 0 for 7 in spring training.

I just checked it out and Chief Wahoo does NOT have buck teeth. He has nice beautiful pearly chompers. I wish I had teeth like that.
