3/15 Buccos vs Redlegs : The Sequel

We have no idea what the lineup is, because C. Trent hasn't given us an update since the early game. We do know that Bobby Livingston is starting for the Reds and trying to keep himself in the running for the #5 spot in the rotation, which seems to be Belisle's to lose at this point.

Hamilton was scratched due to shin splints. Bubba takes over CF, and Bruce gets the start in right.

This is the A game.. The earlier game didn’t really happen

  4. smartelf says:

Bay hits into a force… lead runner nailed at 3B. One out, 2 runners on.

  5. smartelf says:

    Over Crosby’s head… 2 runs will score.

  6. smartelf says:

Called strike 3 on Nady. The 2 run double was hit by catcher Ronny Paulino.

  7. smartelf says:

Livingston issues a BB. 2 on 2 outs.

  8. BubbaFan says:

Who are these people, and what have they done to the Pirates?

  9. Red Hot Mama says:

Sucks about Hamilton’s shin splints. I used to get those when I started playing DDR. Ouch like crazy.

  10. smartelf says:

Encarnacion walked, Dunn singles. Two outs.

  11. smartelf says:

Javy drives one and didn’t miss by much. Pirates 2-0 after 1.

  12. smartelf says:

Fantasy baseball alert: Paulino is available after most drafts and the guy is putting up monster numbers this Spring. He batted over .300 last year. Today he is hitting behind Jason Bay which you have to like. For your back up fantasy catcher you could do ALOT worse.

  13. BubbaFan says:

It’s my knee that kills me when I play DDR too much.

This is typical Obi-Shawn Chacon. Walks a lot batters, gives up a lot of hits, lots of contact, but somehow the balls falls into gloves. When he’s on, he constantly works in and out of trouble.

  14. smartelf says:

Jay Bruce gets robbed of a hit.

  15. smartelf says:

Easy inning for Chacon. Reds trail 2-0 after 2.

  16. Red Hot Mama says:

I had to stop playing DDR when I got what I’m pretty sure was a stress fracture in my foot, and I’ve never gotten back into it. But one of these days I’ll move into a house with more space, and an actual machine is on my dream list. My brother has a plan for how to build one of his own, so it might not even be ridiculously expensive.

    How was the trip, smartelf?

  17. BubbaFan says:

    Deno in, Bubba out. Injury?

  18. Red Hot Mama says:

Gawd, I hope not! Where will the team be without Hamilton AND Bubba??

  19. Red Hot Mama says:

In the middle of the third, the Reds still trail 2-0. At least they’ve staunched the bleeding, which they couldn’t seem to figure out how to do this afternoon.

  20. BubbaFan says:

To tell you the truth, I’ve been wondering if tonight is the last time Bubba will be in a Reds uniform. Everyone’s expecting serious roster cuts after today’s doubleheader. Narron said yesterday that they probably won’t carry four lefty OFers. And Bubba said if they’re going to cut him, he hopes they do it early, so he has a chance to hook up with another team. I think he sees the handwriting on the wall. 🙁

  21. Red Hot Mama says:

I don’t see it, BubbaFan. I think he’s on the opening day roster.

  22. Red Hot Mama says:

I saw someone else make reference to that left-handed outfielders comment elsewhere as well. What reporter came up with that gem?

So, who are the four outfielders they’re asking about? Dunn, Hamilton, Crosby, and Griffey. But they’re also saying that Griffey’s going to be hurt to star the season (something I’ve suspected since his injury was announced a couple months ago), so I’m not sure he counts anyway.

Less likely, but they could also be making coy reference to moving Griffey to first. (I hope, I hope)

  23. BubbaFan says:

I hope so. I really think the Reds would be a good fit for Bubba.

Won’t help his cause if he’s injured, though. The Bucs announcers said he caught his foot on the turf on that 1st inning hit over his head. (A lot outfielders seem to be doing that on this field.) No official report yet, though.

  24. BubbaFan says:

It might have been John Fay who asked. He’s been trying to predict the opening day roster.

Narron did say that it depended on whether Griffey is healthy by opening day.

  25. Redsfan68 says:

    Bubba better make this team…

or the Krivsky bashing will begin !!

  26. Redsfan68 says:

somebody will begin the year on the DL

    Hamilton shin splints
    JR Wrist
    Freel Hammy

  27. BubbaFan says:

Or maybe Bubba. Still no report on why he was pulled from the game.

  28. smartelf says:

Valentin delivers with a single.. Runners at 1st and 3rd.

  29. BubbaFan says:

Speedy Hopper just beats the throw. The Bucs announcers thought he was out.

  30. smartelf says:

Today was rainy and cold in Cincinnati, but I spotted ALOT of Reds caps and sweatshirts, etc. when I hiked around the neighborhood. This is a marked difference from a couple of yrs ago when I arrived in May and it seemed like I was the only won sporting the Reds gear. So it looks like fan enthusiasm is pretty high.

  31. smartelf says:

Reds eeked out the run btw.. so its 2-1 now.

  32. BubbaFan says:

    Deno robbed again.

Both John Fay and C. Trent say they think Hopper will make the team over Deno.

  33. smartelf says:

Holy crap! Grande isn’t on for more than 30 seconds and already praised Jim Edmonds! I know he is screwing with us… very funny George… good one.

  34. smartelf says:

Jim Edmonds is not in the game, isn’t even healthy how can you mention him, George?

  35. smartelf says:

Remember that show “The Mole”? If ever there was a mole it is George grande. The guy is working for the Cardinals in their propaganda department.

  36. smartelf says:

Ok, George has one more half an inning… I swear on my life if he says the words “Sir Albert” somewhere in this next segment I am going to go friggin ballistic.

  37. smartelf says:

Thank God… they mostly talked about Hamilton and Griffey etc. If there had been any possible mention of how the Reds will compete or any reference to the Cardinals I just know he would have said “Sir Albert”.

  38. BubbaFan says:

Bellhorn is 2 for 3 tonight so far.

  39. smartelf says:

He drove in the Reds run didn’t he?

  40. BubbaFan says:

Yeah. You know it’s not going well when you can talk about “the” run….

  41. BubbaFan says:

Bubba pulled due to a “strained calf.” Sigh.

  42. smartelf says:

The Reds better be very careful… the Cardinals have 2 injured outfielders in Encarnacion and Edmonds… I am worried they would grab Crosby if we tried to put him thru waivers… much better to send DEno down and protect Bubba from our rivals. He has shown me enough that I don’t want him helping the Cards.

  43. smartelf says:

they called it a “minor strain” which doesn’t sound too bad.

  44. smartelf says:

Is it just me or is this like the dullest game of the entire spring so far? Reds trail 2-1 headed for the 9th.

  45. smartelf says:

Ligtenberg in to pitch. Is he still in the mix? Unlikely.

  46. BubbaFan says:

It’s not just you. This game is dullsville. I’m not sure why. Aside from the lack of Bubba, of course. 😉

It just seems like it’s really sloppy, when things should be pulling together. Fielders letting balls drop in in front of them, or throwing them into the stands. Runners not only getting doubled off, but almost lapping the guy ahead of them. Batting out of order.

  47. smartelf says:

Yeaa its true, all that happened.

  48. smartelf says:

Machado draws the lead off walk. Reds last chance here.

  49. smartelf says:

I can’t believe the Pirates traded Mike Gonzalez for LaRoche. What were they thinking? Oh yea, you don’t need a closer when you seldom have a lead to protect.

  50. smartelf says:

Janish takes a strike instead of getting the bunt down. 1-2 count.
